UNITED States Masters Swimming (USMS) has been struggling recently with the departure of its first executive director, Todd Smith, who resigned after less than a year. In that time, President Rob Copeland has been filling in as the organization searches for a replacement.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with <i>Swimming World Radio<\/i> that appears on page 57 of the April issue of <i>Swimming World Magazine<\/i>, Copeland talks about the process behind selecting a new executive director and the vision he sees for USMS and its 45,000 members. One goal Copeland mentions is increasing membership tenfold to 500,000 swimmers.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;I&#39;d like to see us provide the opportunity for people to have a structured swimming life so they can find a place to improve their physical fitness,&quot; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Copeland also details the strengths in USMS, which includes its thousands of volunteers at the local and national levels.
