Hit refresh for the latest coverage.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Women&#8217;s 100 free<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sweden&#8217;s <strong>Sarah Sjostrom<\/strong>, the reigning <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/swimming-world-magazine-announces-male-and-female-european-swimmer-of-the-year\/\" target=\"_blank\">European Swimmer of the Year<\/a>, blasted the field with a sizzling 53.72 in the morning. \u00a0That swim would have ranked her 10th in the world last year if she hadn&#8217;t already been fourth with a 52.70 from the World Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Sjostrom was the lone swimmer under 54 seconds this morning, as Canyon&#8217;s <strong>Abbey Weitzel<\/strong> snared the second seed in 54.21. \u00a0Alongside <strong>Simone Manuel<\/strong>, she is one of the top American sprinters heading into this Olympic year.<\/p>\n<p>California&#8217;s <strong>Dana Vollmer<\/strong> checked in with a third-seeded time of 54.44, while NCAP&#8217;s <strong>Katie Ledecky<\/strong> began what will be a long weekend with seven events as she posted a 54.45 to qualify fourth.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s a personal best for Ledecky, beating her previous top 100 free of 54.55 from last year&#8217;s Arena meet here in Austin.<\/p>\n<p>Hungary&#8217;s <strong>Katinka Hosszu<\/strong> (54.58), HPCO&#8217;s <strong>Chantal Van Landeghem<\/strong> (54.86), Colorado Stars&#8217; Smith posted a second-seeded time of 52.63.<\/p>\n<p>California&#8217;s <strong>Tom Shields<\/strong>, who ranked fifth in the world last year with a 51.03, posted a third-seeded 52.65.<\/p>\n<p>SwimMAC&#8217;s <strong>Tim Phillips<\/strong> claimed fourth in 52.91, while NBAC&#8217;s <strong>Michael Phelps<\/strong> qualified fifth overall in 52.99.<\/p>\n<p>SwimMAC&#8217;s in the middle distance women&#8217;s 400-meter freestyle at the 2016 Arena Pro Swim Series Austin.<\/p>\n<p>Ledecky blew the doors off the rest of the field with a 4:01.45 in January, in prelims. \u00a0That swim ties for 14th all time in the event&#8217;s history and is the second-fastest time in January ever behind Ledecky&#8217;s 4:00.47 from last year&#8217;s Austin stop of the Arena Pro Swim Series.<\/p>\n<p>Considering that Ledecky is coming off altitude training in Colorado Springs, it is not unfathomable that she could become the first woman\u00a0in history to drop a 3:59 January 400-meter freestyle time.<\/p>\n<p>Virginia&#8217;s <strong>Leah Smith<\/strong> was the closest qualifier with a second-seeded 4:06.06, while Hungary&#8217;s <strong>Katinka Hosszu<\/strong> qualified third in 4:06.58.<\/p>\n<p>NBAC&#8217;s <strong>Lotte Friis<\/strong> (4:07.95), Mission Viejo&#8217;s <strong>Stephanie Peacock<\/strong> (4:07.98), NBAC&#8217;s <strong>Becca
