{"id":177168,"date":"2016-01-13T08:41:39","date_gmt":"2016-01-13T15:41:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=177168"},"modified":"2016-01-13T08:41:39","modified_gmt":"2016-01-13T15:41:39","slug":"fina-announces-new-open-water-swim-world-events-series","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/fina-announces-new-open-water-swim-world-events-series\/","title":{"rendered":"FINA Announces New Open Water Swim World Events Series"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FINA has announced a new non-elite open water series that will run in conjunction with the current 10K Marathon Swimming World Cup. \u00a0The Open Water Swim World Events series will open the World Cup course to non-elite athletes prior to the World Cup taking place in each location.<\/p>\n<p>Here is FINA&#8217;s release explaining the move:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The 2016 Aquatic year will be highlighted by the introduction of a new highly anticipated event on the FINA calendar \u2013 the FINA Open Water Swim World Events 2016.<\/p>\n<p>The concept of the FINA Open Water Swim World Events is to run a Mass Participation Swim Series alongside the existing FINA\/HOSA 10km Marathon Swimming World Cup events.<\/p>\n<p>This new event, and the mass participation of non-elite open water swimmers associated with it, presents a number of significant benefits, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Increasing the participation in open water swimming events<\/li>\n<li>Increasing the revenue for the event organisers<\/li>\n<li>Raising the profile of the elite race<\/li>\n<li>Providing an opportunity for additional sponsors<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>FINA Open Water Swim World Events\u2019 participants will swim one lap of the elite course (generally a 2.5km or 1.6km swim) and all races will operate under the FINA guidelines respecting strict safety measures and branding policy.<\/p>\n<p>The 2016 circuit of the mass event will consist of seven legs, usually taking place the day before or the same day than the elite race, as follows:<\/p>\n<p>Patagones-Viedma (ARG) \u2013 February 6, 2016<br \/>\nAbu Dhabi (UAE) \u2013 February 27, 2016<br \/>\nBalatonfured (HUN) \u2013 June 18, 2016<br \/>\nLac St Jean (CAN) \u2013 July 23, 2016<br \/>\nLac Megantic (CAN) \u2013 August 12, 2016<br \/>\nChun\u2019an (CHN) \u2013 October 9, 2016<br \/>\nHong Kong (HKG) \u2013 October 16, 2016<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FINA has announced a new non-elite open water series that will run in conjunction with the current 10K Marathon Swimming World Cup. \u00a0The Open Water Swim World Events series will<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":7,"featured_media":143005,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_active":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_note":"","_monsterinsights_sitenote_category":0,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":"","jetpack_publicize_message":"","jetpack_publicize_feature_enabled":true,"jetpack_social_post_already_shared":false,"jetpack_social_options":{"image_generator_settings":{"template":"dois","enabled":false},"version":2}},"categories":[3,11],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-177168","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-featured","category-open-water"],"jetpack_publicize_connections":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v24.3 (Yoast SEO v24.3) -
