{"id":176816,"date":"2016-01-12T09:46:04","date_gmt":"2016-01-12T16:46:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=176816"},"modified":"2016-01-12T09:46:04","modified_gmt":"2016-01-12T16:46:04","slug":"usa-swimming-short-course-top-10-rankings-11216","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/usa-swimming-short-course-top-10-rankings-11216\/","title":{"rendered":"USA Swimming Short Course Top 10 Rankings &#8211; 1\/12\/16"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With 2016 now in full swing, USA Swimming has released an updated National and Zone Short Course Top 10 for open and 18-and-under swimmers.<\/p>\n<p>The women&#8217;s open rankings are headlined by some unsurprising names.\u00a0<strong>Katie Ledecky<\/strong> tops the nation (and in some cases, the world) in the 200, 500 and 1000 freestyle races. <strong>Ariana Vanderpool-Wallace<\/strong> leads the country in the 50 and 100-yard freestyles, while Virginia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Courtney\u00a0<\/strong><b>Bartholomew<\/b> ranks first in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke.<\/p>\n<p>In the 18-and-under ranks, Ledecky has her name atop the same freestyle races. She&#8217;s joined by\u00a0<strong>Abby Weitzell<\/strong> in the 50 and 100 free, fourteen-year old\u00a0<strong>Alex Walsh\u00a0<\/strong>in the 100-yard back, and\u00a0<strong>Ella Eastin\u00a0<\/strong>in the 200 fly, 200 IM, and 400 IM.<\/p>\n<p>On the men&#8217;s side,\u00a0<strong>Caaleb Dressel<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Ryan Hoffer<\/strong> highlight the sprint free races, topping the 50 and 100 frees, respectively.\u00a0<strong>Ryan Murphy\u00a0<\/strong>claims the top spot in both the 100 and 200-yard back, while\u00a0<strong>Joseph Schooling<\/strong> leads both the 100 and 200-yard fly.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Michael Andrew<\/strong>&#8216;s name appears atop two\u00a0of the 18-and-under events including the 100-yard breast and 200-yard IM. Hoffer, whose earth-shattering 41,23 100-free from early December, also holds top spots in the 50 free, 100 back, and 100 fly.
