SHAOXING, China, April 1. A pair of national records have fallen at the Chinese Trials held in Shaoxing, China.<\/p>\n
Wu Peng downed the men's 200 butterfly record with a swift time of 1:54.82, just off the Asian record of 1:54.56 held by Takashi Yamamoto since the 2004 Athens Games. Wu's time of 1:54.82 is within the top five in the world this year.<\/p>\n
Xie Zhi took down the men's 100 breast record with a time of 1:01.63, which broke an 11-year-old record set by Zeng Qiliang with a 1:01.66 at the 1997 Chinese National Championships. Xie's time is among the top 20 in the world this year.<\/p>\n
Zhang Lin won the men's 200 freestyle in a time of 1:47.63, nearly hitting his national record set at the 2007 World Championships. His effort is 14th in the world this year.<\/p>\n
"I thought I could break the national record, but it was my first final at the trial. I think I can do better in the following events," Zhang told Chinaview<\/i>.<\/p>\n
In the women's 400 IM, Li Xuanxu knocked off Qi Hui, 4:39.07 to 4:39.64, in competitive contest. Both times stand within the top 10 in the world this year. Qi is definitely the more experienced of the two as she still holds the Asian record in the 200 breast with a 2:22.99.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Ouyang Kungpeng won the men's 200 back in 1:59.51 \u2013 a top 20 time in the world this year, while Zhao Jing took the women's 200 back in 2:08.41, which ranks as the third best in the world this year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
