COLLEGE PARK, Maryland, April 2. FALLSTON dominated the men's side of the Maryland 1-3A State Championships, winning by 132.5 points.<\/p>\n
Fallston strung together a 341.5-point effort, taking its first-ever Maryland 1-3A championship. Last year, Fallston won a state championship under the 4A3A classification. Annapolis finished up second with 209 points while Havre de Grace piled up 169 points and took third.<\/p>\n
Wade Boarman from Kent Island fell less than a second off of the state record in the 200 IM, placing first with a 2:04.08 time. He capped off his individual event slate by snagging the 100 freestyle state record, beating out the field with a 48.57 time. His standard erased the former mark of 49.95 set by Jack Gottschalk of Fallston last year.<\/p>\n
Gottschalk capped off his senior campaign by winning two individual events. He snatched up the gold medal in the 50 freestyle, clocking a 22.35, and he also won the 500 freestyle as well (4:57.96).<\/p>\n
Charlie Melesh of Annapolis set a state record in the 100 backstroke, putting up a time of 54.92. His time eclipsed Havre de Grace's Jeff Riley's former mark of 55.99, which he set at last year's meet. Melesh also posted the top time in the 100 butterfly (54.71).<\/p>\n
Fallston went 2-for-3 in the relay events. The 200 medley relay contingent of Nick Tomechko, Jamie Hicks, Bradley Huppenthal and Gottschalk nailed a win in the opening relay with a 1:47.75 time while the 400 freestyle relay quartet of Paul Zoli, Mark Ledford, Huppenthal and Gottschalk bested Annapolis in 3:27.46 clocking.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
