THE second day of swimming witnessed yards in prelims and long course meters in the evening at the National Club Swimming Association (NCSA) Junior National Championships.<\/p>\n<p><b>Girls<\/b><br \/>\nIn the 100-meter free, Liv Jensen, 17, won the event in 56.39 while being joined by Shara Stafford of the Topeka Swim Association (57.12) under the Olympic Trial time.  Jensen also broke the meet record during prelims with a 48.62 in yard swimming.  Cait Connealy of Afox had set the original record at 49.69 in 2002.<\/p>\n<p>During prelims, in the 100-yard free, Missy Franklin, 12, of the Colorado Stars shot down her second U.S. National Age Group record with a time of 50.50 in the 11-12 division.  That performance wiped out the 50.89 set by Grace Cornelius way back in 1985 \u2013 23 years ago.  No one competing in the meet had even been born yet.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, Franklin set several NAG records earlier this month as previously <a href=http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/lane9\/news\/17358.asp target=_blank>reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Kallie Golden, 15, of Poseidon Swimming touched out Stafford in the 200 back, 2:17.73 to 2:17.75, as both cleared the Olympic Trials cut.  Ellyn Baumgardner, 17, of Curl-Burke followed in the 100 breast with a victory in 1:10.81.<\/p>\n<p>In the 200 fly, Leah Reinhardt, 17, of Lakeside Swim Team touched out Yasi Jahanshahi, 17, of Golden West, 2:14.42 to 2:14.80, to grab the win.<\/p>\n<p>During the 800 free relay, an unidentified squad from The Woodlands won in 8:25.29.<\/p>\n<p><b>Boys<\/b><br \/>\nMichael Arnold of Chattahoochee Gold started off the meet for the boys with a triumph in the 100 free when he hit the wall in 51.62, ahead of Wes Lagerhausen&#39;s 52.00 representing Waukesha Express.<\/p>\n<p>David Wren, competing for Nova of Virginia in the 200-yard backstroke prelim, broke the meet record with a time of 1:45.45.  That effort cleared the 1:45.90 set by Jamie Rauch of The Fleet way back in 1997.  Brady Fox, 17, of Rockville-Montgomery showed better speed in the meter swim as he touched out Wren, 2:03.36 to 2:03.45 for the title.<\/p>\n<p>In another close battle, Stuart Ferguson, 17, of Poseidon held off Rockville-Montgomery&#39;s Eric Friedland, 1:04.35 to 1:04.44, in the 100 breast, while Friedland&#39;s teammate Mark Meyer claimed the 200 fly crown in 2:02.83.<\/p>\n<p>Rockville-Montgomery remained on a roll as an unidentified team from the club won the 800 free relay in 7:38.26.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\/results\/hy-tek\/2008%20NCSA%20Junior%20National%20Swimming%20Champs%20-%20(03-18-2008%20-%2003-22-2008)\/index.aspx target=_blank>Results: 2008 NCSA Junior National Swimming Champs &#8211; (03-18-2008 &#8211; 03-22-2008)<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ORLANDO, Florida, March 19.
