While Katie Ledecky was busy <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/swimming-world-performance-of-the-week-katie-ledeckys-1000-freestyle\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">shattering the American record in the 1,000 freestyle<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, down in Texas <\/span><b>Ryan Hoffer<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was having a tremendous meet at U.S. Winter Juniors &#8211; West that included a 17-18 NAG record in the 100 freestyle. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Touching in 41.23, <\/span><b>Hoffer <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">smashed <\/span><b>Caleb Dressel\u2019s <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">venerable NAG record of 41.90 that was set only a year ago at the 2015 SEC Championships while also setting the pool record at UT\u2019s storied Lee &amp; Joe Jamail Swim Center. That swim placed the Scottsdale Aquatic swimmer<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">as the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">second fastest American performer of all-time<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with only <\/span><b>Nathan Adrian <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">having swum faster. <\/span><b>Adrian\u2019s <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">American Record in the 100-yard freestyle stands at 41.08 from 2009.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That leaves <\/span><b>Hoffer <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">only .15 away from <\/span><b>Adrian\u2019s <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">American Record, and at only 17 he has over a year to continue to drop and potentially break through the 41-second barrier. Only a year ago, no one under the age of 18 had broken 42 seconds in the 100 freestyle, and now this 17 year old is knocking on the door of the American Record with plenty of time left in his swimming career. In addition to his incredible swim on the third day of the meet, <\/span><b>Hoffer <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">also won the 50 free (19.06), 100 back (45.58), and 100 butterfly (45.46).
