MEL Stewart, former 200 butterfly world record holder and 1992 Olympic gold medalist, visited the Toyota Southern California Grand Prix in Long Beach, Calif., in January on a mission to discover the secret behind the success of many of swimming&#39;s superstars.<\/p>\n<p>What impressed Stewart most was the size of the athletes today compared to his era in the 1990s, and even the vast difference in body composition in the 30 years since Mark Spitz&#39;s Olympic achievements.<\/p>\n<p>Watch Stewart flex his way through this fun <i>SwimmingWorld.TV<\/i> interview with coaches Mark Schubert and David Marsh, as well as a few of the more muscular swimmers, such as Erik Vendt and Peter Vanderkaay.  The interview can be found by Premium members on page 41 of the March issue of <i>Swimming World<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>It&#39;s part of the trend that today&#39;s athlete wants to be &quot;bigger, stronger, faster,&quot; according to Vanderkaay.
