MONTREAL, Quebec, March 7. ONE of two tune up meets taking place in Canada in anticipation of the country's Olympic Trials next month began with the Quebec Cup starting in Montreal.<\/p>\n
Barbara Jardin, 16, pulled the curtain on the meet with a triumph in the women's 400 IM as she hit the wall in 4:51.66 to knock off Kristen Bradley, who finished second in 4:52.23. <\/p>\n
In the men's 400 IM, Keith Beavers crushed the field with a winning effort of 4:20.96, which cleared the Provincial record of 4:23.99 set by Tobias Oriwol last year. Oriwol, consequently, finished second in 4:25.46.<\/p>\n
Helen Pitchik, 17, touched out youngster Ashley McGregor, 14, in the women's 100 breast, 1:12.74 to 1:12.99, while Mathieu Bois walked away with the men's 100 breast title in 1:02.61 over Darren Mew's 1:03.00.<\/p>\n
In the 100 fly races, Audrey Lacroix stamped her name on the women's gold medal with a time of 1:00.13, while Fred Bousquet demolished the competition in the men's heat with a time of 52.87.<\/p>\n
Jardin wound up on the losing end of the women's 400 free after winning the IM at the same distance, when she touched in 4:19.81 for second. Charnelle Charron-Watson grabbed the title in 4:15.99. For the men's 400 free, Maxime Roux Dubois picked up the victory in 4:06.72.<\/p>\n
In 400 freestyle relays, a team of Victoria Poon, Jardin, Genevieve Saumur and Sonia Wiechec won the women's title in 3:52.15, while the men's team of Bousquet, Marc-Andre Benoit, Guillaume Dulude and Laurent Bedard claimed the men's crown in 3:31.49.<\/p>\n
