ORADEA, Romania, March 3. GERMANY took the win over Canada (11-6) on day one of the Men's Water Polo Olympic Qualifier in Romania.<\/p>\n
Head Coach Dragon Jovanovic was quite content with Canada's performance in the pool. "I'm satisfied with today's game. We did several things well and have lots to build on. This is a building process over the course of this week."<\/p>\n
Germany took a 2-0 lead in the first period as Canada struggled with a meaningful offense. But the second period saw a livelier Canadian squad, earning a quick expulsion converted by the youngest member of the team Justin Boyd. Both teams exchanged goals with Boyd scoring again for Canada. Aaron Feltham scored two power play markers closing in on Germany with a score of 5-4 at the half.<\/p>\n
However, Germany managed to widen the gap with Politze adding three points in the third period for an 8-4 lead. Canada's Constantine Kudaba managed to snap one in from seven meters with 2:01 remaining on the clock. The third quarter ended with 8-5 lead for Germany.<\/p>\n
Little separated the teams at the top of the fourth but Oeler converted Germany's extra chance while Canada saw its shot come off the right post. Kreuzmann and Sayegh exchanged goals and Politze had the last say with his fifth goal of the game. Germany took the game with a final score of 11-6 over Canada.<\/p>\n
"Our most important games are against Iran, Macedonia and Mexico. If we can be successful against those three countries, we will be well positioned going into the crossover game," added Jovanovic.<\/p>\n
