PHOENIX, Arizona, February 29. TENNESSEE senior Christine Magnuson and Auburn junior Cesar Cielo have been named Swimming World's<\/i> College Swimmers of the Week.<\/p>\n

The award is an extension of the National Collegiate Swimmer of the Week (NCSW) honors given out by CollegeSwimming.com<\/b> across three divisions of NCAA competition.<\/p>\n

Magnuson and Cielo earned the DI NCSW awards, while Edinboro's Brooke Heath and Ryan Thiel of Clarion won the DII honors. Kendra Stern of Amherst and NYU's Andrew Lardiere claimed DIII kudos.<\/p>\n

Magnuson closed her Southeastern Conference career with a bang as she led the Lady Vols to a fourth-place finish at SECs. Magnuson earned the Commissioner's Trophy, the high point award, as she set SEC standards in the 100 free, 200 free and 100 fly. She wound up winning the 50 free, 100 free and 100 fly as well as swam on four relays. Her 22.03 in the 50 stood as the best in the nation and her 1:43.00 200 free leadoff is the third-fastest ever.<\/p>\n

Cielo became the first man in history to go 18 in the 50 free in a conference championship when he clocked an 18.91 to win the 50 free. It is scary that 18 is becoming routine for the man. Meanwhile, he broke an SEC record in the 100 free with a 41.78 in the individual event and a 41.25 as a leadoff. He also helped Auburn win the 200 free, 200 medley and 400 medley relays.
