MIDDLETOWN, Connecticut, February 25. THE Williams College women's swimming and diving team captured their 8th consecutive NESCAC championship Sunday night. The Ephs grabbed two additional event conference titles and finished with an impressive 1853 points, 371.5 more than second place Middlebury. <\/p>\n
"This was an unbelievable meet," said head coach Steve Kuster. "Everything I asked from these swimmers they gave me every session, every day, and then some."<\/p>\n
In her final NESCAC meet, senior Michelle Kurkul captured the title in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:23.01 NATB), while sophomore Christina Metcalf placed third (2:23.68 NATB). First year Ryan McChesney concluded her successful weekend with a win in the 1650 yard freestyle (17:17.67 NATA), her second title of the meet. <\/p>\n
Even when the Ephs did not place first, they found a way to collect large point totals by representing a big majority of the top 5. In the 200 yard backstroke, junior Amanda Nicholson placed second (2:04.68 NATA) and first year Ellen Ramsey placed third (2:05.60 NATB). In the 200 yard butterfly, senior Crissy Haley finished second (2:05.99 NATA) and junior Ann Marie Zollo finished third (2:07.45 NATB). <\/p>\n
At the conclusion of the NESCAC Championships it was announced that Eph head coach Steve Kuster had been voted the NESCAC Coach of the year by his peers, a rare feat to be sure for a coach who had just won his eighth consecutive conference title. <\/p>\n
"Today we had great senior leadership and just great swims from top to bottom," said Kuster. "They were 24 strong and went out and got it done. I was just happy to be along for the ride." <\/p>\n
