AUSTIN, Texas, February 23. JIMMY Feigen, a Swimming World<\/i> five-star recruit headed to the University of Texas, lit up what will be his home pool soon as he lowered his national high school record in the 50 free and the 100 free in the Texas State Championships.<\/p>\n
Feigen, a senior at Winston Churchill H.S., smoked the field with a 19.49 to crush his previous best set with a 19.65 a month ago.<\/p>\n
He also nearly became the first sub-43 high schooler in the 100 free with a ridiculously fast time of 43.05. That performance, in which he went out in 20.43, dropped nearly half-a-second from his previous record of 43.41 set three weeks ago.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, junior Mary Beck of Austin Westlake, who has verbally committed to attending UT, came extremely close to clearing 53 in the 100 back when she broke the public school record of 53.53 set by Jenny Connolly of William Henry Harrison in Indiana. Beck went out in 26.15 and closed out the race in 53.03 to claim the title.<\/p>\n
She just missed taking down the overall high school record of 52.86 set by Natalie Coughlin back in 1998 as a member of the Carondelet H.S. team.<\/p>\n
Finally, Beck helped the Austin Westlake 400 freestyle relay to a National Public High School record. The team of Beck, Megan Latone, Camille Hendrix and Samantha Tucker clocked a 3:23.10 to surpass the previous record held by Ann Arbor Pioneer with a 3:23.85 set in 2005.<\/p>\n
