OMAHA, Nebraska, February 22. LINDSEY Kline and Jessica Hessel each won events to help the University of Nebraska at Omaha move into first place at the halfway point of the North Central Conference swimming and diving meet at the HPER Pool. <\/p>\n
UNO, bidding for its second league championship, has 557.5 points to defending champion North Dakota's 525 after two days of competition. Saturday's prelims begin at 10 a.m., with finals starting at 6 p.m. <\/p>\n
Kline recorded the fastest time in the NCC this season with a mark of 1:52.81 in the 200-yard freestyle, an automatic qualifying time for the national meet. Cait Hopkins was third and Megan Guthmiller fifth for the Mavericks. <\/p>\n
Hessel won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 56.75 seconds, an automatic qualifying time. <\/p>\n
The Mavericks' 200-yard freestyle relay team recorded an automatic qualifying time, finishing just behind North Dakota. Hessel, Kristy Gmeiner, Lucia Zamercnik and Katey Howarter swam the event in 1:35.87 to UND's 1:35.72. <\/p>\n
In other races, Laura Kemp, Jessica LaFave and Ashley Barna finished 3-4-5 in the 400-yard individual medley and the 400-yard medley relay squad of LaFave, Kemp, Hessel and Guthmiller finished third. <\/p>\n
