OVER the weekend, <i>Swimming World<\/i> first <a href=http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/lane9\/news\/16987.asp>reported<\/a> that Peter Vanderkaay chipped away at his American record in the 500-yard freestyle during the Michigan Open. That wasn&#39;t the only swim of note during the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Eva Lehtonen put together a Phelpsian effort on the women&#39;s side of the meet with seven individual titles going her way.  She touched first in the 200 free (1:51.53), 500 free (4:55.43), 1650 free (16:41.16), 100 fly (55.91), 200 fly (2:01.66), 200 IM (2:05.75) and 400 IM (4:24.89).<\/p>\n<p>Two other swimmers accomplished multiple wins with Johanna Cowley and Justin Veneklase each doubling during the meet.  Cowley won races in the 50 free (24.20) and 100 free (51.67), while Veneklase grabbed titles in the 100 free (46.93) and 200 free (1:43.05).<\/p>\n<p>Maeve McHugh (200 back: 2:06.80), Kerry Sodonis (100 breast: 1:07.79), Rebecca Brooks (100 back: 59.03) and Annie Lazor (200 breast: 2:25.98) also won titles for the women, while several men captured individual titles.<\/p>\n<p>Fernando Costa (1650 free: 15:41.31), Jan Hanulik (200 IM: 1:56.18), Cody Hollies (100 fly: 51.92), Clay Youngquist (200 back: 1:54.71), Steven Catala (100 breast: 59.67), John Robert Lehtonen (200 fly: 1:53.19), Beau Austin (50 free: 21.50), Cameron Weaver (200 breast: 2:11.78) and Tony Mattar (400 IM: 4:10.51) all joined Vanderkaay with men&#39;s crowns.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ROCHESTER, Michigan, February 11.
