DALLAS, Texas, February 4. THE No. 13 SMU women's swimming and diving team fell, 155-139, to No. 4 Texas Saturday afternoon at Perkins Natatorium. With the loss, SMU moves to 5-2 in dual meets this season but both losses have come against top six teams.
\nAll-American Therese Svendsen picked up two top-finishes, winning the 100- and 200-yard backstrokes in 54.82 and 1:58.16, respectively. The senior also had a second-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley, touching the wall in 2:03.81. Svendsen also swam the opening leg of the 200-yard medley relay squad, as the Mustangs finished with a time of 1:42.02.<\/p>\n
Freshman Rachel Nicol also earned two individual titles on the afternoon. The breaststroke specialist took first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:03.74, edging out fellow newcomer Erica Donadon by one one-hundredth of a second (1:03.75). Nicol also won the 200-yard breaststroke, clocking in with a time of 2:15.48.<\/p>\n
Senior Denisa Smolenova had a pair of first-place finishes, claiming the 100-yard butterfly in 54.87 and the 200-yard butterfly in 1:59.26.<\/p>\n
Sophomore standout Nina Rangelova won the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.45) and was second in the 500-yard freestyle (4:49.75). Rangelova was also a member of the second-place 200-yard freestyle relay team that finished in 1:32.77.<\/p>\n
Freshman Isabella Arcila had runner-up honors in the 50-yard freestyle (23.42) and 100-yard freestyle (50.56).<\/p>\n
Freshman diver Sky Corbett-Methot placed second in the three-meter dive with a score of 273.97. She earned third in the one-meter event with 242.55 points.<\/p>\n
The Mustangs compete at the Conference USA Championships Feb. 15-18 in Houston.<\/p>\n
