Torres, who set an American record in the 100 fly earlier in this meet, was out under American record pace in 26.07. The 33-year-old Stanford swimmer came back from a disappointing 200 free two days ago, in which she suffered from severe cramps.<br \/>\nJenny Thompson qualified second in 54.72, promising a rematch of the rivals&#39; back-and-forth in the 100 fly. Thompson, 27 and also swimming for Stanford, won the 100 fly in finals after Torres had broken Thompson&#39;s American record in prelims.<br \/>\nCourtney Shealy qualified third in 55.41, Christina Swindle fourth in 55.50, Amy Van Dyken fifth in 55.55, Colleen Lanne sixth in 55.90, Liesl Kolbisen seventh in 56.02 and Ashley Tappin eighth in 56.09.<br \/>\nRounding out the semi-final are: Erin Phenix (56.29), Catherine Fox (56.36), 31-year-old Melanie Valerio (56.42), Kari Woodall (56.45), Angel Martino (56.50), Keiko Price (56.54), Sara Platzer (56.65) and Samantha Arsenault (56.70), who took the 200 free out in record pace.<br \/>\nThe top six finishers in this event qualify for the 400 free Olympic relay; Van Dyken, Martino, Tappin, Fox, Valerio, Torres and Thompson among others in the semi-final have already made international names for themselves in this event.<\/p>\n<p>For live results feeds check the <A HREF=http:\/\/www.omegatiming.com\/swimming\/Java\/swim_v4.html>OMEGA TIMING site.<\/p>\n<p>Full results and schedule of events are available from <A HREF=http:\/\/208.169.21.68\/2000_olympictrials\/schedule.htm>US Swimming<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Event 17: Women&#39;s 100 Free Dara Torres qualified first for semi-finals in the 100 free in 54.62.
