STOCKTON, California, February 2. UC Santa Barbara swimming closed out its dual meet season with wins against Pacific's swimming teams. A solid turnout from the men's team guided UCSB over the Tigers 164-95. Sophomore Anne Marie May led the women Gauchos over Pacific in a tightly contested match that UCSB won 136.5 to 125.5.<\/p>\n
Sophomore Naomi Javanifard, Sara Nicponski, Erin Yamamoto and anchor May took to the pool first in the 200 medley relay. They crossed the finish line in 1:43.70 to earn 11 points for first place. Sophomore Matt Bartlett, Jeff Sudbury, Danny McClary, and senior Mason Edwards followed in the women's footsteps and took the 200 medley relay in 1:32.57.<\/p>\n
In the men's 200 free, sophomore Scott Vogelgesang finished with the gold, clocking in at 1:42.48. Bartlett beat out Pacific's Wojciech Betlej for first place in the 100 back (50.14). Sudbury and Travis Jepson finished 1-2 in the 100 breast for a total of 13 points (57.57, 58.31). Jepson's time marks a season best performance for the junior.<\/p>\n
May continued her dominance in the sprint free events against Pacific. She started it off in the 50 free, where she beat out Jenny Lewis of Pacific for the win (23.57). While only being able to watch Curtis Bauer win the 50 free on the men's side (21.29), she got back in the pool for the 100 free and took the gold in 51.82. Bauer's 21.29 is a top mark for the senior this season. Junior Bradley Matsumoto won the 100 free in 46.67.<\/p>\n
Junior Katy Freeman pulled in front of the Tiger's Ziada Jardine to win the 200 breast (2:19.95). Jepson had a career day winning the 200 breaststroke in 2:03.98. The Campbell, Calif. Native earned his second season-best mark for his performance.<\/p>\n
Freshman Lindsay Gaudinier swam 500 yards to first place in the distance freestyle event (5:03.46). Senior Brooks Felton pulled a fast one over Stephen Quinn's head for the first place finish in the men's 500 free (4:39.38).<\/p>\n
Yamamoto got back to her winning habits, beating her Pacific competitor in the 100 fly touching the wall at 57.16. Sophomore Chris Wigging garnered a win in the 100 fly beating the second place swimmer by .77 of a second.<\/p>\n
The Gauchos swept the 200 free relays with the women going 1:35.22. Nadia Dwidar swam a 23.46 split. The men went 1-2 in the race the "A" team beating out the "B" team in 1:24.82. <\/p>\n
