LANCASTER, Pennsylvania, February 2. THE Franklin & Marshall men's swimming team won the first eight out of 11 events to defeat Dickinson 106-88.<\/p>\n
The women held a 62.5-47.5 lead after capturing the first four out of six events and earning three more victories down the stretch to edge the Red Devils, 112.5-90.5. Meghan Karanian was a double winner for the Diplomats, touching first in the 100 and 200 freestyle.<\/p>\n
The men's 400 yard medley relay team of Matt Young, Tom Grabiak, Val Perfanov and Phil Rehders helped F&M take an early 15-2 lead with a first-place finish in 3:40.23.<\/p>\n
Derek Nowak followed with a win in the 1000 freestyle (10:10.46) and Peter Fishler led a 1-3-5 finish in the 200 free with a time of 1:48.56 to extend the lead to 40-12 after three events.<\/p>\n
Rehders, Grabiak and Perfanov collected their first individual wins of the day, taking first in the 50 free, 200 IM and 200 butterfly, respectively. Rehders swam 22.57, while Grabiak beat teammate Greg Mackinnon by 1.73 with a time of 2:01.23. Perfanov collected nine points with a time of 2:04.66.<\/p>\n
Fishler picked up his second victory, swimming 48.72 in the 100 freestyle to help F&M take a commanding 90-38. Mackinnon won the 200 backstroke in 2:00.93 for the Diplomats final first-place finish of the afternoon.<\/p>\n
On the women's side, Emily Zacherl tallied the first individual win for F&M with a time of 11:09.48 in the 1000 freestyle. In the third event, Karanian touched the wall in 2:01.31 in the 200 free and Brittany McCabe pushed the lead to 42.5 – 31.5 with a first-place finish in the 50 free (25.73).<\/p>\n
Laura Bassford took second in the 200 IM, but came back the next event to lead a 1-2-3 finish in the 200 butterfly. She clocked in at 2:16.60, followed by Jennie Payne in second with 2:29.39 and Karrah Hurd in third.<\/p>\n
Karanian and McCabe tallied back-to-back victories in the 100 free (56.06) and 200 backstroke (2:13.51), respectively, for a 88.5-59.5 advantage. Cydney Eldh was the final winner in the 200 breaststroke (2:31.19). <\/p>\n
