COLLEGEVILLE, Pennsylvania, February 2. FRESHMAN Matt Violette won three individual events as the Washington College men's swimming team improved to 5-4 overall and 1-3 in Centennial Conference meets with a 125-66 win over host Ursinus College this afternoon in Collegeville, PA.<\/p>\n
Violette captured the 400 individual medley in 4:24.51 and the 500 freestyle in 4:57.16. Both of those times were Washington College season-bests. His time in the 400 individual medley made him the Shoremen's fourth-fastest swimmer ever in that event, while his 500 freestyle time made him the Shoremen's fifth-fastest swimmer ever in that event.<\/p>\n
Sophomore Chris Soper and senior Eddie Raleigh finished first and second and then second and first, respectively in a pair of freestyle events. Soper won the 200 freestyle in 1:55.03, while Raleigh was second in 1:55.35. In the 100 freestyle, it was Raleigh winning in 52.61, while Soper was second in 52.87.<\/p>\n
Sophomore Dylan Pollock won the 200 butterfly in a WC season-best time of 2:04.83. The Shoremen also won both relay events as Violette, senior Alex Thomas, Pollock, and junior Phil Munger won the 200 medley relay in 1:44.24 and junior Dan Wentzel, Raleigh, freshman Tim Beadell, and Soper won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:34.40.<\/p>\n
Thomas finished second in both the 50 freestyle (23.84) and the 200 breaststroke (2:23.33), while Wentzel was second in the 1000 freestyle in 10:44.41 and Munger was second in the 400 individual medley in 4:54.47. Senior Brandon Becker added a second-place finish in the 200 backstroke in 2:12.15.<\/p>\n
For the women, freshman Rachel Glasser and senior Megan Morse each won two individual events as the Washington College women's swimming team recorded its 10th straight win to improve to 10-1 overall and 4-1 in Centennial Conference meets following a 126-72 victory over host Ursinus College in Collegeville, PA. The victory also gave the Shorewomen at least 10 dual meet wins in a season for the first time in six years.<\/p>\n
Glasser finished first in the 200 freestyle in 1:59.76 and swam a Washington College season-best time of 2:11.03 to win the 200 butterfly and become the Shorewomen's fourth-fastest swimmer ever in that event. Morse won the 50 freestyle in 25.88 and the 500 freestyle in 5:18.21.<\/p>\n
Sophomore Kathy Gerhart was first in the 100 freestyle in 56.49 and second in the 200 freestyle in 2:02.99, while junior Kimber Shoemaker won the 200 backstroke in 2:20.09 and was second in the 400 individual medley in 5:06.43. Freshman Laura Lazenby won the 400 individual medley in 5:04.56.<\/p>\n
Sophomore Amy Smith, sophomore Liz Thomas, sophomore Cailin Eisele, and senior Nicole Stanton won the 200 medley relay in 1:58.22. Swimming as an exhibition entry, Morse, Glasser, Smith, and Gerhart swam the fastest time in the 200 freestyle relay, finishing the race in a WC season-best 1:44.67.<\/p>\n
Eisele, Smith, senior Nicole Ludwig, and junior Anna Green each added one individual second-place finish. Eisele was second in the 200 butterfly (2:22.86), Smith in the 200 backstroke (2:20.90), Ludwig in the 200 breaststroke (2:39.99), and Green in the 1000 freestyle (11:37.79). <\/p>\n
