GAINESVILLE, Florida, January 26. THIS week's SwimmingWorldMagazine.com<\/b> Meet of the Week lived up to its billing as Auburn and Florida traded matching action-packed victories. The Auburn men picked up the 165-135 triumph, while the Florida women countered with a win by the same score, 165-135, in the long course meter dual meet.<\/p>\n
In the men's meet, Auburn scored 10 titles against Florida's six. Kelly Marx swept the diving events with wins in the 1m (317.25) and 3m (348.38), while Cesar Cielo claimed the sprint free titles with B cuts in the 50 (22.71) and 100 (51.30)<\/p>\n
Kohlton Norys had the best overall swim with an A cut in the 100 back (56.21), while Jakob Andkjaer won the 200 free in a B-cut 1:51.82.<\/p>\n
Other winners included Michael Silver with a B-cut 1:04.48 in the 100 breast, and Tyler McGill's B-cut 100 fly (54.74).<\/p>\n
Auburn also swept the relays with a pair of B-cut times. Pascal Wollach, Jonathan Hiett, Andkjaer and Alexei Puninski won the 200 medley in 1:43.84, while Andkjaer, Scott Goodrich, Puninski and Cielo snared the 200 free in 1:32.76.<\/p>\n
Logan Storie paced Florida with a pair of titles, both in the distance free events. Storie touched first in the 400 free in 4:02.70, while also posting a B-cut time of 15:41.70 in the 1500 free.<\/p>\n
James Walsh won the 200 fly in a B-cut time of 2:03.48, while Rexford Tullius snagged the 200 back in a B-cut time of 2:02.76.<\/p>\n
The final two wins for the Florida men came from Clark Burckle with a B-cut time of 2:19.04 in the 200 breast and Bradley Ally with a B cut of his own in the 200 IM (2:06.74).<\/p>\n
The Florida women seized nine titles against Auburn's seven in the other dual meet.<\/p>\n
Jeanna Bartell swept the diving crowns with wins in the 1m (266.54) and 3m (275.78) for Florida, while Laurabeth Guenthner claimed the two distance events. Guenthner clocked an automatic qualifier in the 1500 free (16:40.74) and won the 400 in 4:17.37.<\/p>\n
Gemma Spofforth touched first in the 100 back with an A-cut time of 1:03.26, while Stephanie Proud won the 200 back with an A-cut time of 2:15.66. Spofforth also posted an A cut in the 200 with a time of 2:16.40. Finally, Carmen Retrum hit the wall in an A-cut 2:18.81 to win the 200 IM for Florida.<\/p>\n
Florida also claimed both relays with B cuts. Samantha Vanderbilt, Amanda Hartley, Colleen Healy and Elizabeth Kemp won the 200 medley in 1:57.34, while Caroline Burckle, Healy, Kemp and Stephanie Napier finished first in the 200 free in 1:46.26.<\/p>\n
Caitlin Geary truly led Auburn with a trio of individual titles. Geary posted an A-cut time of 2:01.94 in the 200 free, while also winning the 50 (26.39) and 100 (56.99) with B cuts.<\/p>\n
Abby MacGregor swept the breaststroke events. She clocked an A-cut time of 1:10.86 in the 100, while also winning the 200 in a B-cut time of 2:34.45.<\/p>\n
Emily Kukors grabbed the 200 fly title with an A-cut time of 2:14.60, while Ava Ohlgren won the 100 fly in 1:03.37.<\/p>\n

\n"It was a really important win for our men's team. My theme has been to keep growing and keep improving and that happened in this meet. I think it is significant that we beat them long course because they are built for long course swimming a little bit better than we are. But, we still stepped up and got the job done, so I am real pleased where we are with the men."<\/i><\/p>\n

\n"I think we took things for granted at the beginning of the meet and Florida really competed well today, I take my hat off to them. I think we got better throughout the meet, showed some areas that we need to work on quite a bit, so all in all I think we are going to take something positive out of this."<\/i><\/p>\n
Florida coach Gregg Troy:<\/b>
\n"The thing we were looking for today with the women was getting their racing times up. We had great competition with a really good Auburn team. There were a lot of close races, but we won a lot of them. We put ourselves in a situation where we had some people step up to a whole new level. As far as the men, we are really pleased with the way they swam. For the most part the men raced really tough and are end of the season focused. We had some veterans and some young guys step up, taking International Class athletes to the end of the race and that was huge."<\/i><\/p>\n
