HOUSTON, Texas, January 26. THE No.19-ranked LSU women's swimming and diving team dominated Houston and Rice on Saturday at the CRWC Natatorium to complete its two-day double-dual meet. <\/p>\n
The Lady Tigers (8-3) defeated the Cougars by a 240-102 score and triumphed over the Owls by a 216-119 mark.<\/p>\n
Saturday's competition completes LSU's regular season and it will take the next four weeks to prepare for the postseason.<\/p>\n
"I was very pleased with how the women came out and responded today," said LSU head coach Adam Schmitt. "Today they did a great job of hitting the wall and winning some races. They are putting up good times as we prepare for the SEC Championships."<\/p>\n
The Lady Tigers took first-place honors in five of Saturday's nine events. Berit Aljand Kannon Betzen and Monica McJunkin ended their regular season on a high note as each of them won an event and were part of the first-place team in the 400 medley relay.<\/p>\n
Aljand, Betzen, McJunkin and Katie Gilmore teamed up to capture the top spot (3:49.37) in the 400 medley relay. <\/p>\n
Betzen led an LSU 1-2-3 finish in the 100 breaststroke. Betzen hit the wall at 1:04.24 and she was followed by Jane Trepp (1:05.36) and Victoria Givens (1:05.59).<\/p>\n
LSU had a 1-2-4 finish in the 100 free. McJunkin was first to finish by clocking a time of 51.46. Lauren Grandy took the runner-up spot by hitting the wall at 51.92 and Leigh Ann King finished fourth (52.54).<\/p>\n
Aljand swam the fastest time in the 200 back (2:04.05).<\/p>\n
Katherine Noland and Vanessa Duenas took the top two spots in the 200 fly. Noland's time of 2:04.48 put her in first, while Duenas had a second-place time of 2:05.46.<\/p>\n
In the 500 free, Brooke Barnett finished first (5:00.42) and Grandy captured her second runner-up finish with a time of (5:00.42).<\/p>\n
In diving, Rachel Ware placed second in the 1-meter springboard by scoring 280.94 points. <\/p>\n
The Tigers will return to action in a month for the SEC Championships in Tuscaloosa, Ala. which begin Feb. 20. <\/p>\n
