VILLANOVA, Pennsylvania, January 26. JOHN Ohlhaver and Andrew Zinn both won four events as the University of Delaware men's swim team topped Villanova, 213.5-82.5, during a non-conference showdown at the Wildcats' Swim Complex.<\/p>\n
On the women's side, the Hens fell to Villanova, 180-120, despite two victories from Emily Smathers. It was their first loss in a non-conference meet in two years. They had won 17 straight since their last defeat at the hands of Bucknell in 2006.<\/p>\n
In the men's meet, it was the first time that the Hens defeated the Wildcats since 1938. Villanova had been on a 12-meet winning streak against Delaware.<\/p>\n
In the competition, Ohlhaver set a new Delaware record in the 200 backstroke after finishing in 1:53.45. He broke his own mark of 1:53.49 set last season.<\/p>\n
Ohlhaver then completed the sweep of the backstroke events after capturing the 100 in 52.64. He also helped anchor both the 200-medley and 200-freestyle relay teams, which both won their events as well.<\/p>\n
Zinn, who joined Ohlhaver on the victorious relay teams, also continued his dominance of the sprint freestyles after winning the 50 in 20.82 and the 100 in 46.51.<\/p>\n
Dominic Pavlik also had a strong day in the pool, winning three events for the Hens. He took the 200 freestyle in 1:44.61 before grabbing a victory in the 200 breaststroke (2:13.27). He served as a member of the 200-yard medley relay team as well.<\/p>\n
Matt Wehrman also captured multiple events for Delaware, finishing first in both the 500 and 1000 freestyles. Adam Blomberg rounded out the Hens' list of multiple victors, after serving as the final member of the 200-medley relay and winning the 200 yard IM in 2:00.59.<\/p>\n
Ross Buckwalter also won the 100 breaststroke (1:02.36), Michael Wodoslawsky finished first in the 100-yard butterfly (53.18), and Scott Tsuchitani and Zach Schiavo teamed with Ohlhaver and Zinn to win the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:25.47). In diving events, Thomas Gallagher also won the 1-Meter competition, while Matt Abbruzzese took the 3-meter board.<\/p>\n
On the women's side, Delaware won four events, buoyed by Smathers' victories in the 100 and 200 backstrokes. She finished the 100 in 1:00.10 before clocking in at 2:09.01 during the 200.<\/p>\n
Cortney Barry and Sarah Begley were the other two winners for Delaware. Barry won the 1000 freestyle in 10:20.56, while Begley captured the 100-yard butterfly in 59.53.<\/p>\n
Smathers and Begley also joined with Kellie Pastore and Maryann Walker to place second in the 200-yard medley relay. Walker and Begley finished second in the 200-yard freestyle relay as well after teaming with Donna Healy and Catherine Gallagher in that event.
\nEmily Watts also had a strong day, finishing as the runner-up in both the 100 and 200 backstroke competitions before teaming with Gallagher, Kailey Pelton, and Meghan Barber for a third-place showing in the 200-yard medley relay.<\/p>\n
Both the men and women will return to the pool for their last regular-season meet of the season against CAA foe William & Mary in Williamsburg, VA on February 2 at 2 p.m. <\/p>\n
