FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida, January 22, 2008. THE critically-acclaimed feature documentary Freedom’s Fury is available on DVD in a distribution partnership with the International Swimming Hall of Fame. <\/p>\n
Freedom’s Fury deals with the Hungarian Revolution of 1956 and the legendary water polo showdown between Hungary and the Soviet Union at the Melbourne Olympics. Now known as the “Blood in the Water Match,” the battle in the Olympic pool and the larger battle for Hungarian freedom are powerfully explored in this unforgettable water polo documentary. <\/p>\n
Freedom’s Fury is narrated by Olympic swimming champion Mark Spitz. Hollywood actress Lucy Liu and Oscar-winning writer\/director Quentin Tarantino served as executive producers.<\/p>\n
Special features include director’s audio commentary from Colin Keith Gray and Megan Raney Aarons, as well as a behind-the-scenes featurette and an interview with Liu. Other features include underwater and crane coverage of the 2004 U.S. National Team and features star players such as Tony Azevedo and Wolf Wigo. <\/p>\n
The documentary has received remarkable reviews from around the globe. It was a hit at the 2006 Tribeca Film Festival and had a major theatrical release in Hungary in 2006, where it was the box-office champion for a week. Limited international theatrical releases that coincided with various 50th anniversary celebrations of the Hungarian Revolution and Melbourne Olympics took place in the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, Australia and the United States. The filmmakers were also knighted by the Hungarian government for their contributions to increasing awareness about the Revolution around the globe in December 2006, followed by a special screening of the film for Congress in April 2007 hosted by the Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Human Rights Caucus. <\/p>\n
“Freedom’s Fury celebrates the power and beauty of the sport of water polo and is one of the few films that really showcases aquatics and the spirit of amateur athletics,” says International Swimming Hall of Fame CEO Bruce Wigo. “This is why ISHOF is so thrilled to be associated with the DVD release of this documentary.” <\/p>\n
The DVD will be available through the ISHOF website for $24.99, or as part of a larger ISHOF membership package for $35.00. The package includes a copy of the Freedom’s Fury Collector’s Edition DVD, as well as a copy of ISHOF’s annual yearbook as well as a 10% discount on all ISHOF merchandise, including the world’s most popular instructional water polo DVDs. A portion of all proceeds from the sale of the DVD and all water polo DVD’s will be donated to the USA Water polo Olympic athlete Fund to provide financial assistance to U.S. Olympic water polo athletes.<\/p>\n
