WEST LAFAYETTE, Indiana, January 19. PURDUE'S swimming and diving teams had their way with Miami University at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center. The two teams combined to win 30 of 32 events.<\/p>\n
The 12th-ranked Boilermaker men (6-2) won 202-91. The women (4-6) outscored the Redhawks 195-100.<\/p>\n
Of the 36 student-athletes on the men's roster, 16 of them earned one or more victories. Andrew Langenfeld, John Schmitt, Jin-Soo Kim and Sam Wilcher were among the handful of multiple-event winners.<\/p>\n
Freshman Scott Dean, sophomore A.J. Boeh and junior Bill Arzner won their first individual races of the 2007-08 season. Dean won the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.10. Arzner captured the 200 breaststroke in 2:08.16. Boeh hit the wall first in the 500 free at 4:41.88.<\/p>\n
Senior Nicole Weatherman claimed two individual titles, winning the 500 freestyle in 4:58.84 and the 1650 free with a personal best and NCAA provisional time of 16:43.33.<\/p>\n
Weatherman's previous personal record was listed at 16:44.06.<\/p>\n
Weatherman was just one of eight Boilermakers to post multiple victories. She was part of a group that also included Shannon Grace, Leah Henninger, Allie Smith, Jennifer Lavers, Stacie Lesneski, Ariel Martin and Lisa Butler.<\/p>\n
Smith won the 100 backstroke in 56.44 and 200 back in 2:03.59. The freshman started the meet by posting an NCAA consideration mark of 55.93 in leading off the winning 400 medley relay (3:49.14).<\/p>\n
Ashley Karnes extended her springboard winning streak to six. The sophomore from Bloomington, Ind., has yet to lose a competition in 2008.<\/p>\n
Saturday, Karnes totaled a season and personal best 286.58 points on 1-meter and 303.53 points on 3-meter.<\/p>\n
Junior Zach Schultz got the job done on 1-meter, scoring a season and team best 341.55 points. His score was 51 points better than that of teammate Kyle Mitrione, who was second with 290.18 points. <\/p>\n
