CHAMALIERES, France, January 19. AFTER two sessions of preliminary action, titles were finally up for grabs at the French Cup in Chamalieres, France.<\/p>\n
Simon Dufour picked up the first title on offer at the meet as finals began during the second night of swimming. Dufour touched in 27.36 to win the men's 50 back, while Joris Hustache finished second in 27.75.<\/p>\n
Elodie Samouilhan backed up her prelim seed with a win in the women's 50 back when she clocked a 31.13. Coline Ribaud took second in 31.47, while Charlie Marqueton placed third in 31.50.<\/p>\n
James Gibson posted the only sub-29 time in the men's 50 breast to win in 28.33 over Tony De Pellegrini's 29.37, while Anne Sophie Le Paranthoen turned in a 32.89 to win the women's 50 breast over Julie Pujol (33.59).<\/p>\n
In the 50 fly, Christophe Lebon hit the wall in 24.98 to win the men's title over Jean Charles Tonnele (25.22), while Alena Popchanka garnered the women's crown in 27.25 with Malia Metella taking second in 27.95.<\/p>\n
Alain Bernard stepped up in the men's 50 free to post a winning time of 22.51, in front of David Maitre's second-place 23.11, while Hanna Shcherba Logeril grabbed the women's title in 26.31, ahead of Amardine Bouysset's 27.11.<\/p>\n
Fabien Horth whacked nearly four seconds from his preliminary time to win the men's 200 IM in 2:04.65. He finished well ahead of Nicolas Rostoucher's 2:06.78.<\/p>\n
In the women's 400 IM, Hannah Miley destroyed the competition with a time of 4:40.52, with Joanne Andraca taking second in 4:51.22.<\/p>\n
Bernard made it a freestyle sweep when he stopped the clock in 48.88 in the 100 to beat out Fabien Gilot's second-place time of 49.83.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Laure Manaudou won her first event title since starting talks to move her training base to Mulhouse. Manaudou held off Popchanka, 1:58.26 to 1:58.82, to win the women's 200 free title.<\/p>\n
After taking a loss in the sprint breast against Gibson, De Pellegrini returned to claim victory in the men's 200 breast with a time of 2:19.03. Michael Jamieson provided the closest competition with a 2:20.21.<\/p>\n
Le Paranthoen added the 100 breast to her 50 breast win as she dominated the longer stroke in 1:09.96. Pujol took second again, this time with a 1:13.35.<\/p>\n
Laure's younger brother Florent grabbed some of his own attention with a triumph in the men's 100 back. Florent stopped the clock in 57.91 to defeat Dufour, who placed second in 58.11.<\/p>\n
With Laure electing to sit out the women's 200 back final, Sharon Van Rouwendaal took advantage of the absence with a first-place 2:21.15. Marie Jugnet placed second in 2:22.11. Laure's preliminary time of 2:21.60 would have given her second in the race.<\/p>\n
Lebon earned his second title of the day with a 2:01.40 time in the men's 200 fly after winning the 50 fly earlier in the session. Alexandre Morin took second well behind in 2:05.56.<\/p>\n
Popchanka bounced back from the head-to-head loss against Manaudou with her second title of the day, this time in the women's 100 fly. She clocked a 1:00.01, while Louise Pate finished second in 1:01.87.<\/p>\n
