GREELEY, Colorado, January 18. FRESHMAN Grace Kittle (Dallas, Texas) won both the 100 and 200 breaststroke events and six other Pioneers won individual events and DU won both relay swims as the Pioneers defeated Northern Colorado 169-130. Kittle won the 100-breast with a time of 1:06.54 and followed that up with a win in the 200-breast, bringing home first place in that swim with a time of 2:23.76.<\/p>\n
Junior Caitlin Summers (Portland, Ore.) got things going right off the bat for the Pioneers, winning the 1000-freestyle by nearly three seconds with a time of 10:47.57 in the first individual race of the afternoon. After a UNC swimmer took first in the 200-freestyle, senior Kelsey Totura (Castle Rock, Colo.) got the Pioneers back on track with a win in the 100-backstroke, coming home with a time of 59.57 to just edge teammate Melissa Greeves (Melbourne, Australia), who finished second at 1:00.42.<\/p>\n
Kittle\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s first win followed and UNC grabbed a win in the 200-butterfly before freshman Katy Motsinger (Charleston, S.C.) notched another win for the Pioneers in the 50-free, coming home with a time of 24.67. In the next event, junior Erika Ross (Colorado Springs, Colo.) grabbed a win in the 100-freestyle, just edging Motsinger by less than 20-one hundredths of a second. Ross\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 time was 24.67 and Motsinger\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s was 54.69.<\/p>\n
After Kittle won her second breaststroke event, sophomore Lindsay Brown (Allen, Texas) kept DU to its winning ways with a win in the 500-freestyle, turning in a time of 5:13.46 to beat out Natalie Walker (Portland, Ore.) (5:17.09).<\/p>\n
DU\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s final individual win of the evening came from junior Michele Lowry (Hailey, Idaho) in the 200-IM, as she won with a time of 2:11.97, just in front of Olivia Dean (Aurora, Colo.) (2:11.96).<\/p>\n
The Pioneers were also victorious in both relay swims. DU\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcA\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 relay team of Motsinger, Kittle, Hayley Ettelson (San Diego, Calif.) and Totura won the 400-medley relay with a time of 3:56.31 and in the last race of the night, the \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcA\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 relay team of Greeves, Ross, Kittle and Totura grabbed the win in the 200-free relay with a time of 1:39.06.<\/p>\n
