PHOENIX, Arizona, December 17. THE College Swim Coaches Association of American (CSCAA) released its latest Division I Dual Meet Rankings this weekend.<\/p>\n
The following is the full text of the release as distributed by the CSCAA:<\/p>\n
After a semester of fast swimming throughout Division I, the pollsters have cast their final ballots of the 2007 calendar year. Changes in the rankings were very few, but the most significant was certainly the move by the Auburn Tigers women, who took away the top ranking from the Georgia Bulldogs. In a vote that has the Bulldogs with more number one votes (6) than the Tigers (4), Auburn's 294 points bettered Georgia's 293 by the narrowest of margins. Holiday cheer can also be heard in Kentucky where the Wildcats have moved into the rankings in the 23rd spot. <\/p>\n
The men's rankings saw even less change than the women's. In fact, the top 16 spots remained exactly the same. While the Texas Longhorns maintained their iron grip on the number one spot, the Southern Methodist Mustangs are new to the rankings and find themselves ranked 24th.<\/p>\n
For the most part, the college competitive season is taking a bit of a break now to allow for final exams. The next step for most teams will be training trips between semesters to varying spots throughout the country and the world. <\/p>\n
This year's poll will be published eight times and the champions will be crowned on February 27, 2008. Pollsters representing eight conferences along with two at-large voters have the task of ranking the top dual meet teams in the nation bi-weekly throughout the season. Additionally, the group of pollsters is completely different for the men's and women's rankings. This poll should not be confused with the results of the NCAA Division I Swimming & Diving championships that will take place in March.<\/p>\n
The next poll results will be released on January 15, 2008.<\/i><\/p>\n
