NASSAU, New York, December 10. ITHACA separated itself from the competition at the New York Women's State Championships by winning all three relays and totaling 337 points.<\/p>\n
Sayville\/Bayport\/Blue Point won a battle for second place with 189 points. Pittsford fell just short of the runner-up spot by scoring 180 points and took third.<\/p>\n
Ithaca, led by a blistering 28.58 breaststroke split, captured the 200 medley relay as Nicole Heise, Lauren Norberg, Logan Todhunter and Lindsey Norberg gathered up their individual stroke talents and won in 1:46.22. The 200 freestyle relay team of Caitlin Nicholson, Todhunter, Lauren Norberg and Emily Peck won in state-record time, clocking a 1:36.19. Fairport's 2006 relay held the former standard (1:37.04) before Ithaca broke it in prelims (1:36.72) and again in finals. Nicholson, Kailey Gardner, Todhunter and Peck held off the strong final two legs from Sayville\/Bayport\/Blue Point in the 400 freestyle relay and took the gold with a 3:32.08 time.<\/p>\n
Emily Kelly of Sacred Heart obliterated the former state standard in the 200 freestyle, swimming a gold-medal worthy 1:47.90. Kiersten Koronowicz of Newburgh swam the former record time of 1:49.76 back in 2002. Kelly went on to win the 500 freestyle later in the meet, turning in a 4:48.48 standard. <\/p>\n
Tottenville's Sara Giberson found herself on the winning end of two close battles as she took the top time in the 50 freestyle (23.82) and the 100 freestyle (51.18).<\/p>\n
Casey Matthews of Williamsville North reset her former state meet record in the diving competition, scoring a 538.35. Her 2006 score, the former state meet record, was a 515.40. Jenny Chiang of Fairport took the second-place spot (520.75) while Valley Central's Kristen Meier placed third (468.30).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
