FAIRFAX, Virginia, December 6. SHE just won't stop breaking records this year! With less than a month left in an amazing 2007 for Kate Ziegler of the Fish, the dominant distance swimmer just one-upped herself at the Tom Dolan Invitational in Fairfax, Va.<\/p>\n
Swimming in the 1650-yard freestyle event, Ziegler dropped a scintillating time of 15:29.15. That time lowered her own American record of 15:37.17 set last year at the same meet.<\/p>\n
She clocked splits of 25.53, 52.81, 1:20.72, 1:48.92, 2:17.10, 2:45.32, 3:13.74, 3:42.12, 4:10.54, 4:38.89, 5:07.26, 5:35.54, 6:03.87, 6:32.16, 7:00.51, 7:28.86, 7:57.13, 8:25.41, 8:53.92, 9:22.19, 9:50.76, 10:19.14, 10:47.85, 11:16.64, 11:45.24, 12:13.79, 12:42.36, 13:10.80, 13:39.21, 14:07.29, 14:35.18, 15:03.70, 15:29.15.<\/p>\n
After taking the swim out fast with a 25.53 and remaining under 28 seconds per 50 through 150 yards, Ziegler then settled into a 28-second range throughout the entire swim, including a sub-28 27.89 at the 1550, before sprinting home in 25.45. Her final 50 was actually quicker than her first 50.<\/p>\n
That is the third time this year that Ziegler has dropped a long-distance record by nearly 10 seconds. First, she crushed the 1500 freestyle world record of Janet Evans by more than nine seconds at the TYR Swim Meet of Champions with a 15:42.54, breaking Evans' 1988 standard of 15:52.10.<\/p>\n
Later in the year, Ziegler added the 800 and 1500 short course meter records to her coffer with times of 8:08.00 and 15:32.90 at the Alex Athletics Jubilaums Challenge. Her effort in the 1500 destroyed the 15:42.39 set by Laure Manaudou in 2004.<\/p>\n
As of this moment, Ziegler owns the world records in the 1500 LCM free, 800 SCM free and 1500 SCM free as well as the American records in 500, 1000 and 1650 SCY freestyle events.<\/p>\n
