GORZOW WIELKOPOLSKI, Poland, December 4. OTYLIA Jedrzejczak put together a strong weekend at the Polish Championships held from Nov. 29 to Dec. 2 in Gorzow Wielkopolski, Poland.<\/p>\n
Throughout the meet, Jedrzejczak snared six gold medals and a pair of silvers. She won the 100 (59.19) and 200 fly (2:08.42) as well as the 200 (1:59.32) , 400 (4:12.26) and 800 (8:53.34) freestyle events. <\/p>\n
Her AZS AWF Warszawa team of Karolina Szczepaniak, Joanna Golebiowska, Dominika Zak and Jedrzejczak won the 400 free in 3:53.04.<\/p>\n
She also took second to Katarzyna Baranowska in the 400 IM (4:45.89) as Baranowska set a Polish record with a time of 4:39.92. She also helped her team take second place in the 400 medley relay as Jedrzejczak, Agnieszka Gapinska, Szczepaniak and Zak fell short with a time of 4:21.76 as the AZS AWFIS Gdansk contingent of Karolina Urbanska, Sylwia Kula, Beata Kaminska and Marianna Milosz won in 4:21.33.<\/p>\n
Baranowska also won the 200 IM (2:15.06) and 1500 free (16:46.97) on top of her Polish record in the 400 IM.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Mateusz Sawrymowicz, who just earned Swimming World's<\/i> European Male Swimmer of the Year title, swept the distance freestyle events with wins in the 400 (3:50.67), 800 (7:52.17) and 1500 (15:06.14). In the 400 and 800, he defeated another top Polish swimmer Przemyslaw Stanczyk, who was swimming with a high fever and had to withdraw from the 1500.<\/p>\n
In other action, Pawel Korzeniowski claimed the 200 fly in 1:56.24, while also topping the 200 free in 1:48.46.<\/p>\n
Overall, eight swimmers qualified for the European Championships in Eindhoven next year as Jedrzejczak, Baranowski, Sawrymowicz and Korzeniowski will be joined by Lukasz Gasior, Mateusz Matczak, Iwona Prrdecka and Kaminska.<\/p>\n
