{"id":163948,"date":"2015-12-11T17:09:28","date_gmt":"2015-12-12T00:09:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=163948"},"modified":"2015-12-11T17:09:28","modified_gmt":"2015-12-12T00:09:28","slug":"records-fall-in-navy-win-over-west-point","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/records-fall-in-navy-win-over-west-point\/","title":{"rendered":"Records Fall In Navy Win Over West Point"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It was a dominant day for the Naval Academy\u2019s swim team on Thursday, Dec. 10. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In a classic rivalry matchup, the Naval Academy Midshipmen men and women dominated the West Point Black Knights. For the Navy women, it was their 27th straight win against West Point. It was the Midshipmen men\u2019s 25th win in a row against the Black Knights. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Naval Academy had complete control over the meet on both sides of the pool. The men won by a score of 213-86, and the women won 234.5-65.5. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Aside for three events, the Navy team won every race at the meet.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The meet started off strong for the Midshipmen. The women\u2019s 200-yard medley relay team set a new school and Patriot League record with a time of 1:39.22. The team consisted of backstroker <\/span><b>Biz Graeff, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">breaststroker <\/span><b>Lauren Barber, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">butterflier <\/span><b>Hannah Briant <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and freestyler <\/span><b>Maddi Thompson. <\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Jenny Smith <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">set a new Navy record in the 1000-yard freestyle, posting a time of 9:51.96. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The 100-yard backstroke was a record-setting event for both teams. West Point\u2019s <\/span><b>Kelly Hamilton <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">won the women\u2019s event with a school record time of 54.41. In the men\u2019s race, <\/span><b>David Carlson <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">set a new Navy record with a time of 47.59. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Carlson also set a school record in the 200-yard backstroke. He posted a time of 1:43.78. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The record-setting day boosted both the Navy men\u2019s and women\u2019s team records to 8-0. The Midshipmen teams will next compete on Jan. 9 at North Carolina.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cTonight was special on a lot of levels,\u201d said Navy men\u2019s swimming head coach Bill Roberts in a press release. \u00a0\u201cObviously for the athletes, it is a big night for them. \u00a0We don\u2019t have to tell them; they know this is a big night for them. \u00a0But to also have the support from the Naval Academy, the Naval Academy Athletic Association, the Brigade, all of the family and friends who came out really makes a difference. \u00a0I can\u2019t put into words the gratitude we have for everyone who supports of the program whether they are hear tonight or supported us from home.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It was a dominant day for the Naval Academy\u2019s swim team on Thursday, Dec. 10.
