DALLAS, Texas, November 28. RECENTLY, Spindrift Beck, a junior at The Hockaday School in Dallas, broke the Girls Independent High School National record in the 100 yard breaststroke while competing at the TISCA North Zone Meet on Nov. 17.<\/p>\n
Beck clocked a time of 1:00.66, taking .37 seconds off the previous standard of 1:01.03 set by Stanford University standout and 2004 Olympian Caroline Bruce while at Trinity Academy in Kansas in 2004.<\/p>\n
"I had no idea I had set a record until three days later," said Beck. "I have always admired Caroline's accomplishments. I never dreamed I would break any of her records, much less her national record."<\/p>\n
Beck covered the time with splits of 29.04 and 31.62, beating her previous personal best by .87 seconds. Beck's next target is the overall national record of 59.20 set by Jessica Hardy in 2005 as a member of Woodrow Wilson H.S. in California. En route to that record, Beck could become one of the few female swimmers to have broken a minute in all four strokes.<\/p>\n
In addition to high school, Beck also swims for the Dallas Mustangs, a USA Swimming Silver Medal Team. She will compete for the Mustangs this coming weekend in Atlanta, Ga., at the USA Short Course National Championships in the breaststroke and IM events.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
