ATLANTA, Georgia, November 25. WHEN Michael Phelps steps onto the blocks in any competition, there is much buzz over what the eight-time Olympic medalist will produce. But, there will be even more interest in Phelps at the U.S. Short Course Nationals in Atlanta next week. After all, Phelps is recovering from a wrist injury.<\/p>\n
Just a few weeks ago, Phelps injured his wrist during a fall and had a small pin inserted to aid in the healing process. The injury likely could have healed without any procedures, but the move was designed to guarantee optimum results. In Atlanta, where Phelps is scheduled to race in a 25-yard pool, we'll get a good idea of where the Club Wolverine star stands.<\/p>\n
With the Olympics approaching rapidly, Phelps will again be a focal point of the Games and this meet is a tuneup of sorts, a chance to get some additional racing under the belt. Considering his track record, there's no reason to believe Phelps will be off his game, injury or not. He's a gamer, plain and simple. Still, it will be interesting to see what Phelps has cooking.<\/p>\n
According to the psych sheets, Phelps is set to race the 100 and 200 freestyles, along with the 200 individual medley. Among the other big names listed are Natalie Coughlin and Ryan Lochte, who set world records earlier this year at the World Championships in Melbourne.
