Day two of the 2015 AT&T Winter National Championships continued with fast preliminary swims.<\/p>\n
Elizabeth Beisel<\/strong> started the morning session off right with a quick 4:41.40 in the women’s 400 IM.\u00a0Sarah Henry\u00a0<\/strong>turned in a time of 4:42.13 from the same heat to grab second for tonight’s finals, while Trojan Swim Club’s\u00a0Haley Anderson<\/strong> finished third with a 4:43.50, also from the same heat.<\/p>\n North Baltimore’s\u00a0Chase Kalisz<\/strong> turned up the heat in the men’s 400 IM stopping the clock at 4:18.40, finishing 5.54 seconds ahead of the competition.\u00a0Michael Weiss<\/strong> returns as the second-place qualifier after posting a time of 4:23.94.\u00a0Max Williamson<\/strong>, swimming unattached, rounds out the top three with a 4:24.22.<\/p>\n Cal’s\u00a0Dana Vollmer<\/strong> blasted to the top of the qualifiers list with a time of 58.06, earning her a spot in the Top 20 world rankings for 2015.\u00a0Claire Donahue<\/strong> finished a close second overall from heat nine with a 58.47, while\u00a0Kendyl Stewart<\/strong>, swimming unattached, posted a 58.67 for third.<\/p>\n Tom Shields<\/strong>\u00a0of Cal delivered a swift 51.83 to qualify first for tonight’s finals. Shields’ prelims time sits only .80 seconds off his 2015 world best of 51.03 from this summer’s World Championships. North Baltimore’s\u00a0Michael Phelps<\/strong> finished a close second from heat 11 with a 51.96, while Tucson Ford Aquatics’\u00a0Masa Kishida<\/strong>\u00a0was third overall with a 52.63.<\/p>\n American record holder\u00a0Allison Schmitt<\/strong> showed her prowess in the 200 free posting the top qualifying time at a 1:57.88, 1.17 seconds ahead of the competition. Cal’s\u00a0Camille Cheng<\/strong> delivered a time of 1:59.05 to return as the second-place qualifier.\u00a0Siobhan Haughey\u00a0<\/strong>cranked out a 1:59.18 from heat one to finish third overall in prelims.<\/p>\n Matias Koski<\/strong>, swimming unattached, turned in the top time in the men’s 200 free stopping the clock at 1:47.72. Trojan Swim Club’s\u00a0Conor Dwyer<\/strong>\u00a0qualified a slim .55 seconds behind from heat eleven with a 1:48.27.\u00a0Maxime Rooney\u00a0<\/strong>finished just behind Dwyer with a time of 1:48.71.<\/p>\n Yulia Efimova\u00a0<\/strong>of Trojan Swim Club dashed to first in prelims with a time of 1:06.81 in the women’s 100 breaststroke. Indiana’s\u00a0Lilly King<\/strong> delivered a time of 1:07.13 to qualify second for tonight’s finals just ahead of\u00a0Molly Hannis’\u00a0<\/strong>1:07.38.<\/p>\n There were fast swims all around in the men’s 100 breaststroke with the top three qualifiers finishing within .40 seconds of each other.\u00a0Sam Tierney<\/strong> topped the qualifiers list with a 1:00.27 from heat nine, while\u00a0Brendan McHugh<\/strong> finished second overall with a time of 1:00.50.\u00a0Richard Funk<\/strong> rounded out the top three with a time of 1:00.67 from heat ten.<\/p>\n Claire Adams<\/strong> moved to the top of the qualifiers list in the women’s 100 back with a time of 1:00.44, less than a second off her 2015 world best of 59.58.\u00a0Ali Deloof<\/strong> cranked out a 1:00.59 for a close second place, while\u00a0Missy Franklin<\/strong>\u00a0will return as third tonight with a 1:00.65.<\/p>\n Matt Grevers<\/strong> cruised to first in the men’s 100 back with a time of 53.74, the only athlete under the 54-second mark during this morning’s preliminaries.
