An American record nearly fell on night two of the Texas Hall of Fame Invitational.<\/span><\/p>\n

Texas\u2019 <\/span>Clark Smith<\/b> went a 4:08.82 in the 500-yard freestyle, less than a half-second off of<\/span> Peter Vanderkaay<\/b>\u2019s American\u00a0record of 4:08.54. Smith\u2019s time was easily under the NCAA \u2018A\u2019 time standard for the 500-yard freestyle. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Longhorn women won the 200-yard freestyle relay to start off the evening. The team of <\/span>Mimi Schneider, Rebecca Millard, Brooke Hansen <\/b>and <\/span>Sam Sutton <\/b>went a time of 1:28.94, beating Arizona by one-hundredth of a second. Texas, Arizona and Southern California were all under the \u2018A\u2019 time standard. <\/span><\/p>\n

Texas did not fare as well in the men\u2019s 200-yard freestyle relay race. The Longhorn\u2019s top relay team was disqualified. Arizona won the race in 1:18.96. The Wildcat team consisted of <\/span>Chad Idensohn, Chatham Dobbs, Renny Richmond <\/b>and <\/span>JP Beach. <\/b><\/p>\n

In the women\u2019s 500-yard freestyle, Southern California\u2019s <\/span>Chelsea Chenault <\/b>picked up the win with a time of 4:39.94. She finished over a half second ahead of Arizona\u2019s <\/span>Bonnie Brandon. <\/b><\/p>\n

Smith won the men\u2019s race by over five seconds. He will have a good opportunity to break Vanderkaay\u2019s record at the NCAA Championships. <\/span><\/p>\n

Texas\u2019 <\/span>Madisyn Cox <\/b>earned an \u2018A\u2019 time standard in the 200-yard individual medley. Cox went a 1:54.29, over two seconds ahead of Southern California\u2019s <\/span>Kristen Vose. <\/b><\/p>\n

In the men\u2019s 200-yard individual medley, <\/span>Ryan Harty <\/b>brought home the title for Texas. Harty touched the wall with a time of 1:43.26, just ahead of Brigham Young\u2019s <\/span>Jake Taylor. <\/b><\/p>\n

Chase Kinney <\/b>brought home the women\u2019s 50-yard freestyle title for Wisconsin. With a time of 22.23, Kinney finished just ahead of Arizona\u2019s <\/span>Katrina Konopka. <\/b><\/p>\n

Texas\u2019 <\/span>Brett Ringgold <\/b>brought home the 50-yard freestyle title. Ringgold touched in 19.38, two-tenths of a second ahead of teammate <\/span>Matt Ellis. <\/b><\/p>\n

The night concluded with the men\u2019s and women\u2019s 400-yard medley relay. Southern California won the women\u2019s race with an \u2018A\u2019 time standard of 3:30.62. The team consisted of backstroker <\/span>Hannah Weiss, <\/b>breaststroker <\/span>Kristen Vose, <\/b>butterflier <\/span>Lucy Worrall <\/b>and freestyler <\/span>Anika Apostalon. <\/b><\/p>\n
