SHEFFIELD, Jul 27. Katy Sexton, 18, capitalized on a strong second lap to win the 100 meter backstroke on Day Three of the British Olympic Trials at Ponds Forge in Sheffield. Sexton's 1:01.80 was a national record. Sarah Price was second in 1:02.18.<\/p>\n
Paul Palmer also came from behind to win the men's 200 meter freestyle, his 1:48.42 edging Jamie Salter at 1:48.73. Five Brits were under 1:50. Palmer was seventh at the 50, third at the 100, second at the 150, and first where it counts.<\/p>\n
Competing in an Adidas bodysuit, but still in the midst of heavy training, Palmer threw in some fartlek-style sprints at various times during the race. Asked why, he noted that Ian Thorpe will be doing that in Sydney, then going to his thunderous kick in the final 50 meters. Anyone who can't respond will be left in Thorpe's wake, he said.<\/p>\n
Other Day Three winners include Adam Ruckwood, men's 100m back-55.81; and Heidi Earp, women's 100m breast-1:10.16.<\/p>\n
In semi-final action, Karen Legg clocked 2:00.64 to secure lane 4 for the finals. She swam 2:00.64, as three other wopmen turned in 2:01s. <\/p>\n
Sue Rolph (2:16.50) and Kathryn Evans (2:17.54) were well ahead of the field in the 200 IM, with the third-place qualifier more than two seconds back.<\/p>\n
