Kawecki stopped the clock at 1:48.33 to lower his own record of 1:48.51 from 2012.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Adam Peaty\u00a0<\/strong>(GBR) turned on the heat during the second session of the European Short Course Championships turning in a time of 26.28 in semi-finals of the 50 breaststroke. Peaty&#8217;s time sits only .14 seconds off the current meet record of 26.14 set by\u00a0<strong>Alessandro Terrin\u00a0<\/strong>(ITA) in 2009.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Damir Dugonjic\u00a0<\/strong>(SLO) and Peaty lit up the pool during finals, finishing .01 seconds apart. Dugonjic stopped the clock at 26.20 over Peaty&#8217;s 26.21 for the win.\u00a0Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Oleg Kostin<\/strong> and Ireland&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Alexander Murphy<\/strong> tied for third with a 26.35.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fanny Lecluyse<\/strong> (BEL) grabbed the top seed in semi-finals of the women&#8217;s 50 breaststroke, posting a final time of 29.76. Finland&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jenna Laukkanen<\/strong> turned in a close 29.83 for the second-place seed, while\u00a0<strong>Natalia Ivaneeva<\/strong> (RUS) rounded out the top three qualifiers with a 30.06.<\/p>\n<p>Later in finals Laukkanen lowered her time to a 29.71 to earn the gold medal for the women&#8217;s 50 breaststroke. Lecluyse slipped to second with a time of 29.84, while Ivaneeva maintained her spot at third with a final time of 29.99.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Katinka Hosszu<\/strong> of Hungary dashed to first in the women&#8217;s 400 IM, turning in a sizzling 4:19.75 to finish almost seven seconds ahead of the competition. Hosszu&#8217;s final time was just shy of her <a href=\"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/katinka-hosszus-world-record-highlights-sizzling-day-1-prelims-at-2015-euro-scs\/\" target=\"_blank\">new World Record<\/a> of 4:19.46 set earlier in the day during prelims.<\/p>\n<p>Hungary&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Peter Bernek<\/strong> and Germany&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Paul Biedermann<\/strong> battled continually for the win in the men&#8217;s 400 free, exchanging fast splits throughout the race. Despite a fast backhalf from Biedermann, Bernek was able to maintain his position and finish first with a time of 3:35.46. Biedermann finished second with a time of 3:35.96.<\/p>\n<p>Hosszu&#8217;s speed continued into semi-finals of the women&#8217;s 100 back where she posted a 56.49 to earn the top qualifying spot for the next day&#8217;s finals.\u00a0<strong>Simona Baumrtova\u00a0<\/strong>(CZE) qualified second with a 57.13, while Poland&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Alicja Tchorz<\/strong> rounded out the top three with a 57.59.<\/p>\n<p>Italy&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Matteo Rivolta\u00a0<\/strong>topped the qualifier&#8217;s list for the men&#8217;s 100 during semi-finals with a time of 49.55. Hungary&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Laszlo Cseh<\/strong> took second overall with a 50.10, while Italy&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Piero Codia\u00a0<\/strong> grabbed third with a 50.19.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Poland&#8217;s\u00a0Radoslaw Kawecki cruised to victory and a new meet record in finals of the men&#8217;s 200 back.
