PHOENIX, Arizona, November 15. IN the latest release by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA), the coaches shook up their overall dual meet rankings. The Georgia women moved into the top spot after an upset of Stanford, while the Texas men earned unanimous selection as No. 1.<\/p>\n
This week's women's poll has quite a bit of movement throughout. There are a total of seven teams that moved at least four spots, up or down, from their previous positions and two previously unranked teams that now find themselves ranked. Highlighted by Georgia's move to the top spot, the women's poll also saw Penn State and Arizona State each move up five spots to #11 and #17, respectively. The biggest slide in the women's rankings belongs to Texas. The Longhorns (who were beaten by #13 Michigan, 214-156) have fallen eight spots to #16.<\/p>\n
Aside from Texas becoming a unanimous selection, there are some big moves in the men's poll. The largest climb comes from Texas A&M. After two victories over ranked opponents, the Aggies jump eight spots from #25 all the way to #18. Other sizeable changes came as the result of one particular dual meet. The Tennessee Volunteers take over the #6 position after their impressive victory over then #2 Auburn. With the loss, the Tigers fall to the #8 slot in the new rankings.<\/p>\n
This year's poll will be published eight times and the champions will be crowned on February 27, 2008. Pollsters representing eight conferences along with two at-large voters have the task of ranking the top dual meet teams in the nation bi-weekly throughout the season. Additionally, the group of pollsters is completely different for the men's and women's rankings. This poll should not be confused with the results of the NCAA Division I Swimming & Diving championships that will take place in March.<\/p>\n
The next poll results will be released on November 29, 2007.<\/p>\n
