ORLANDO, Florida, November 13. A state record fell in the Florida 3A High School State Championship meet that stood as the final high school championship meet of the season for the Sunshine State.<\/p>\n
The Florida state record for the 100 backstroke set at the Florida 2A State Championships held for one day as Lake Brantley's Sarah Bateman lowered the former standard set by Northeast's Meg Romano by .02 with a 54.39. Romano swam a 54.41 at the 2A Championships.<\/p>\n
Bateman also broke the 23-second barrier in her 50 freestyle victory, stopping the clock at 22.93.<\/p>\n
Bateman received All-American accolades with both performances.<\/p>\n
Team Scores<\/b>
\nRiverview emerged from a tight race at the top of the women's competition with a state-title worthy 212.5 points. Buchhulz settled for the second-place spot with 207 points while Lake Brantley-Alamonte Springs amassed 166 points.<\/p>\n
Douglas easily claimed the men's team title, gathering up 245 points throughout the course of the meet. Cypress Bay placed second with 157 points while Palm Harbor University took third with 150 points.<\/p>\n
Women's Individual Results<\/b>
\nJamie Bohunicky from Buchhulz put up two extremely fast All-American times in each of her two individual event swims, joining Bateman as the only other double-event winner on the women's side. Bohunicky hit the wall at the 1:46.55 mark in the 200 freestyle and narrowly missed breaking 50 seconds in the 100 freestyle by posting a 50.10 time.<\/p>\n
Men's Individual Results<\/b>
\nJeff Raymond of Western outswam the field in both of his events, taking the 200 freestyle in 1:38.43 and the 500 free in 4:27.60. Both swims gave Raymond All-American status.<\/p>\n
Robby Kennedy of Fort Myers threw together two All-American swims of his own, claiming first in the 200 IM (1:51.24) and the 100 breaststroke (57.03).<\/p>\n
The Douglas relays swept the competition, winning all three relay events. Kevin Bandy, Ryan O'Shaughnessy, Kyle Bandy and Rory Grigull teamed up in the 200 medley relay to win in an All-American 1:35.05 time. Douglas' 200 freestyle relay team of O'Shaughnessy, Nicholas Schwab, Nicholas Popov and Kyle Bandy crushed the field in an All-American time of 1:25.71 while the 400 freestyle relay (Grigull, Schwab, Popov and Kevin Bandy) withstood a comeback by Palm Harbor University to win in an All-American 3:09.84 time.<\/p>\n
Diving Results<\/b>
\nCherie Hammond of West Orange came home with the gold medal in the women's diving competition, earning a score of 476.50. Brooke George of Boone took the second-place honor (447.35) while Kaylee Dobock of Durant placed third (434.55).<\/p>\n
Hunter Torrence of Olympia captured the men's diving title, scoring 559.70. Taravella's Colin Bell took second place with a 511.25 score while Thomas Neubacher came in third (505.15).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
