It was a record-setting day for sophomore <\/span>Mia Nonnenberg<\/b> of Alabama. <\/span><\/p>\n

Nonnenberg finished second in the 500-yard freestyle at Thursday\u2019s finals of the Georgia Tech Invitational, setting an Alabama school record with a time of 4:43.98. The sophomore finished second to <\/span>Anna Mayfield <\/b>of Arkansas. <\/span><\/p>\n

Florida Gulf Coast started off the day with a win in the women\u2019s 200-yard freestyle relay. In the men\u2019s 200-yard medley relay, the home crowd was treated to a win as Georgia Tech beat Alabama by two-tenths of a second. <\/span><\/p>\n

After Mayfield and Nonnenberg\u2019s battle in the women\u2019s 500-yard freestyle, <\/span>Anton McKee <\/b>took home the men\u2019s title for Alabama with a time of 4:17.46. <\/span><\/p>\n

South Carolina freshman <\/span>Emma Barksdale <\/b>won the 200-yard individual medley, winning the event by only three-hundredths of a second over Arkansas\u2019 <\/span>Chelsea Tatlow<\/b>. On the men\u2019s side, Alabama\u2019s <\/span>Christopher Reid <\/b>earned the victory in the event by nearly a full second. <\/span><\/p>\n

In the 50-yard freestyle, <\/span>Katie Latham <\/b>of Florida Gulf Coast raced to a victory with a time of 22.32. UNLV\u2019s <\/span>Dillon Virva <\/b>won the men\u2019s race with a time of 19.78. <\/span><\/p>\n

Alabama brought home the women\u2019s 400-medley relay crown by almost two seconds over Florida Gulf Coast. The Crimson Tide also won on the men\u2019s side, clocking in at 3:10.59. <\/span><\/p>\n

Going into Friday, No. 11 Alabama holds a slight lead over No. 17 South Carolina. The Crimson Tide have tallied up 328 points while the Gamecocks have 318. No. 22 Arkansas has the lead on the women\u2019s side. The Razorbacks have 338 points. Florida Gulf Coast is in second with 263 points and Alabama has 258. <\/span><\/p>\n

Georgia Tech will also host the NCAA Championships in March. Along with giving teams the chance to preview the pool, this weekend\u2019s meet gives swimmers the chance to swim long course as well as short course. Swimmers compete in a 50-meter pool for morning preliminaries. The pool is switched to 25-yards, the standard NCAA format, for finals in the evening. <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
