MORGANTOWN, West Virgina, November 10. THE University of Louisville swimming and diving teams swept BIG EAST rival West Virginia with the No. 30-ranked men winning 172-126 and the women prevailing 168-132 Saturday afternoon in Morgantown. <\/p>\n
"We battled like we expected to win at a very tough place to play," said U of L head coach Arthur Albiero. "We learned a lot about our team today and each other. We learned how to make push because the way we swam from the halfway break to the end was sensational." <\/p>\n
For the Cardinals, Leslie VanWinkle had three wins with firsts in the 200-and 500-free and 200-IM. Nicole Landisch won the 50-free and the 100-fly as well as being a member of the winning 400-free relay. For the men, Vali Preda had wins in the 100-breast the 200-IM and was part of the winning 400-medley relay. Carlos Van Isschot won the 100-back and swam on the winning 400-medley and the 400-free relay teams. For the divers, Robbie Lewis swept the 1- and 3-meter boards. McKenzie Long took the 3-meter board with teammate Sarah Sandroni winning the 1-meter. <\/p>\n
"I am very proud to beat a good team in a very tough venue to compete," said Albiero. <\/p>\n
In the 400-medley relay foursome of Carlos Van Isschot, Adam Madarassy and Andrei Radzionau won in 3:23.11 to set the tone for the meet. <\/p>\n
Leslie VanWinkle scored her first win with a swim of 1:53.46 in the 200-freestyle. Carlos Van Isschot touched first in the 100-back in 51.09. Vali Preda surged to a win in the 100-breast in 56.79. Rafal Kuchta added to the Cardinals' winning totals with a first in the 100-fly and 1:50.69. Nicole Landisch won the 50-free in 23.74. Anna Dishuck won the 200-breast in 2:18.50. Leslie VanWinkle notched her second win with a first in the 500-free in 5:01.30. Nicole Landisch won the 100-fly in 56.58. <\/p>\n
In the individual medley, a Louisville specialty, Leslie VanWinkle won the 200-IM in 2:07.30 and for the men Vali Preda 1:51.87. The foursome of Anna Dishuck, Nicole Landisch, Liz Halet and Whitney Campbell turned in a time of 3:28.94, good for first in the 400-free relay. The men's 400-free relay team of Carlos Van Isschot, Chris Lindauer, Jordan Wessels and Adam Madarassy were first with a time of 3:05.12. <\/p>\n
