STONY BROOK, New York, November 10. THE Stony Brook Men's Swimming and Diving team jumped out to quick lead on the University of Maine and never looked back, as they beat the Blackbears 177-118 at University Pool. The Women's Swimming and Diving team failed to overcome and early deficit, as they fell, 175-125. <\/p>\n
The men totaled 11 first-place finishes on the day, highlighted by freshman Lukasz Ochmanski's (Lodz, Poland) school-record in the 200-yard freestyle (1:43.3). <\/p>\n
Junior Julian Acevado (Long Island City, N.Y.) also had a solid performance for the Seawolves, sweeping the men's diving competition (one-meter: 303.34; three-meter: 304.65). <\/p>\n
The day's other top-finishers for the men were: freshman Nathan Fleshman (Monroe, Mich.) in 1000-yard free (10:26.16); junior Omer Ozcan (Brooklyn, N.Y.) in the 100-yard backstroke (54.43); freshman Eric Gaffey (Bohemia, N.Y.) in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.69); junior Rafael Labour, Jr. (New York City, N.Y.) in the 50-yard free (21.69) and 200-yard backstroke (2:03.70); senior Dan Piastuck (Holbrook, N.Y.) in the 100-yard free; Ochmanski in the 100-yard fly (54.27); and the 200-yard medley relay team (1:39.47). <\/p>\n
The Stony Brook women's team performed well in the relays, touching first in both the 200-yard medley (1:51.77) and the 200-yard free (1:40.45). <\/p>\n
The women's top individual performer was freshman Maja Gudelj (Split, Croatia) who finished first in the 50-yard free (25.35) and the 100-yard free (54.37). <\/p>\n
Sophomore Brittany Whipple (Kildeer, Ill.) also racked up first-place points for the Seawolves when she won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.21). <\/p>\n
The men's victory puts them at a record of 2-3 on the season while the women fall to 0-5. <\/p>\n
The Seawolves will be in action next on December 1st when they travel to Massachusetts to take on Boston University. <\/p>\n
