The Buckeyes defeated the Eagle women 175-113 and the Eagle men 203.5-96.5. Full recaps and meet results are included below.

Women’s Press Release

Ohio State wrapped up its three-meet week with a 175-113 win at Eastern Michigan on Saturday afternoon.

As has been the case all week, the Buckeye relay team in the 200 medley relay got the Scarlet and Gray started off on the right foot. Liz Li, Amy Bopp, Meg Bailey, and Annie Jongekrijg earned a first place finish with a time of 1:43.19, just .44 faster than Eastern Michigan’s fastest foursome. Lindsey Clary followed that up with a victory in the 1000 free, claiming the top spot with her time of 10:09.74.

Katy Luchansky extended Ohio State’s lead with her performance in the 200 freestyle (1:51.48), though Eastern Michigan’s Grace Van Allen was close behind at 1:51.66. A couple of Buckeyes finished in the top two spots of the 100 backstroke, with Camey Rabold (56.26) edging out teammate Zulal Zeren (56.96). In the 100 breaststroke, Taylor Vargo outpaced the field with her time of 1:03.93, and Bopp did the same in the 200 butterfly (2:02.94). Li then took the 50 freestyle (22.99) to lead Ohio State into the first break with a comfortable lead.

In the 100 freestyle, Luchansky earned her second first-place finish with her time of 52.09, with Eagle Mary Kate Maclean closely behind at 52.30. After just missing out on a top finish in her earlier backstroke event, Zeren came out on top in the 200 backstroke (2:00.98), finishing well ahead of the rest of the field. Vargo became the next Buckeye to nab multiple first-place finishes thanks to her performance in the 200 breaststroke (2:17.91), though she would be the last Buckeye of the day to earn first place points as Ohio State elected not to score any swimmers.

In the following event, Bailey swam the fastest time in the 500 freestyle (4:58.25) which led into the 100 butterfly, which was won by Eastern Michigan’s Carly Jackson and her time of 56.34. Elizabeth Auckley (56.84) had the fastest Ohio State time in that event.

The 200 IM’s fastest finished was Clary (2:05.53), and to close out the meet Ohio State’s relay team of Chantel Wynn, Alexa Wittman, Rachael Dzierzak, and Luchansky (3:28.52) was just narrowly edged out by the Eagles’ top relay team (3:28.46) in the 400 freestyle relay.

As has been the case all year, Ohio State’s divers turned in a stellar performance. Taylor Pamplin won the three-meter dive with her score of 325.43, besting Hannah Thek (316.35) in that event. Thek would come out on top in the one-meter dive, though; her mark of 284.40 led the way with Brittany Menninger close behind at 278.03.

All of that added up to a 175-113 victory for Ohio State, capping a perfect 3-0 week for the Buckeyes. They’ll look to carry that momentum over to next week when they host the annual Ohio State Invite. More information on that to follow.

Men’s Press Release

The Ohio State men’s swimming and diving teams had not lost a dual meet so far this season coming into today. That statement is still true after the Buckeyes’ 203.5-96.5 decision at Eastern Michigan Saturday afternoon.

Matt McHugh, DJ MacDonald, Mark Belanger, and Mossimo Chavez started off the meet as every Ohio State meet has started this season: with a victory in the 200 medley relay. The foursome’s time of 1:30.79 bested the next fastest group by almost three seconds. In the 1000 freestyle, Jovan Mitrovic (9:18.62) edged out teammate Brayden Seal (9:19.04) before Eastern Michigan’s Andrew Henry (1:38.96) placed first in the 200 freestyle, outpacing Ohio State’s top finished Steffen Hillmer (1:40.92).

In the 100 backstroke, Belanger nabbed his second first-place finish of the day, his time of 49.42 beating out Andrew Appleby (50.25). MacDonald (56.14) just got by Christopher Hodges of Eastern Michigan (56.42) for first place in the 100 breaststroke before Ching Lim’s great performance in the 200 butterfly. The sophomore swam a 1:47.62, the fastest for a Buckeye this year and one of thirty best times in the nation this season. The Eagles’ Dylan Crompton won the 50 freestyle at 21.20, barely beating Chavez (21.29) heading into the first break.

Lim came back and won another event, this time the 100 freestyle (45.61). After narrowly missing out in the 100 backstroke, Appleby won the 200 backstroke with his time of 1:50.45, beating out Eastern Michigan’s Erik Gissen (1:51.11). That was followed by Seal (4:31.19) and Mitrovic (4:33.95) finishing first and second in the 500 freestyle, with Joey Long (4:34.08) just missing out in third. McHugh then swam a 48.11 in the 100 butterfly to head into the second break.

The final two swimming events both went to Ohio State. Lim’s great meet continued with his time of 1:50.61 in the 200 IM, beating the next closest swimmer by over three seconds and earning the fastest time for a Buckeye in that event to boot. The 400 freestyle relay went to the foursome of Nathan Christian, Hillmer, Chavez, and McHugh (3:00.79). Diving-wise it was another great performance by the Scarlet and Gray. Colin Zeng won both events, though one was much closer than the other. He won the three-meter with his score of 406.80, topping his teammate Christo Law (358.43). Zeng then recorded a 366.83 in the one-meter dive, which bested Eastern Michigan’s Alexander Chan (365.40) by the slimmest of margins.

After all of that, Ohio State came away with a sound 203.5-96.5 victory over the Eagles. The Buckeyes are still perfect in dual meets this season and will carry that record over to 2016, with the final competition of the calendar year coming next weekend in the annual OSU Invite. More information on that event to come.

2015 Women OSU v.
