GETTYSBURG, Pennsylvania, November 3. SOPHMORE Keira Heath (Greenwich, Conn.\/Greenwich) won three events while freshman Adam Taft (Wilton, Conn.\/Wilton) captured two, leading the Gettysburg College men's and women's swimming teams to a dual meet sweep over Washington (Md.) College in the dual meet and Centennial Conference opener for both squads at the College Union Building Natatorium.<\/p>\n
The women's team cruised to a 146-59 victory while the men's team won in a barnburner, 107-96.<\/p>\n
Heath won by 12 seconds in the 1,000-free, touching the wall in 10:37.46. She also posted wins in the 200-IM (2:13.50) and the 500-free, winning by nine seconds in 5:14.37.<\/p>\n
Also earned individual victories for the women's team were juniors Caitlin Reilly (Farmington, Conn.\/Farmington), Demery Close (Berwyn, Pa.\/Conestoga), and Stelanie Mpazicos (Ridgefield, Conn.\/Ridgefield). Reilly came out on top in the 100-free (55.93) while Close prevailed in the 200-back (2:15.16). Mpazicos won the 200-breast in 2:34.60.<\/p>\n
Gettysburg also claimed both women's relays. In the 400 medley, freshman Val Atwood (Rockford, Ill.\/Choate Rosemary Hall (Conn.)), Mpazicos, junior Sarah Andryauskas (Lexington, Mass.\/Lexington), and Reilly teamed up for a winning time of 4:10.57 while freshman Maggie Mulderrig (Baltimore, Md.\/Notre Dame Prep), senior Alison Pettine (Harleysville, Pa.\/Souderton), senior Katie Wright (Haddam, Conn.\/Haddam-Killingsworth), and freshman Susannah Ferrer (Darien, Conn.\/Darien) closed the meet with a 3:49.78 clocking in the 400 free.<\/p>\n
The men's team carried a 94-92 lead into the final event, the 400 free relay, but the Bullets clinched the meet by winning it. Freshman Donald Bennett (Staten Island, N.Y.\/Monsignor Farrell), junior Matt Rush (Lenox, Mass.\/Lenox), freshman Stephen Stopenski (Merchantville, N.J.\/Bishop Eustace Prep), and freshman Andrew Tobin (Moorestown, N.J.\/Moorestown) recorded a time of 3:23.41 and finished in front of a team from Washington by six seconds and earn the 11 points for a relay win.<\/p>\n
Taft picked up victories in the 200-free (1:51.96) and the 200-back (2:01.19) while Stopenski added a win in the 1,000-free (10:43.36). <\/p>\n
