PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island, November 3. FAIRFIELD swept Providence College in an exciting day of action in the pool. The women's team took the meet by a score of 168-132 to improve to 3-1 on the year while the men won 165-133 to improve to 2-1 overall. The Stags had numerous multi-event winners on the day including junior Drew Kingman, who broke a trio of his own school records in his winning efforts. <\/p>\n
Kingman took the 100m breaststroke with a time of 1:10.37 besting his previous standard of 1:10.46 set last season. Later in the meet, he eclipsed his record in the 200m breaststroke with a time of 2:32.56. The previous record of 2:33.74 was set last season. He ended the day by winning the 200m IM with a time of 2:16.07 to best last season's record of 2:16.28. <\/p>\n
Senior Sean McGonigle also was triple winner in one of his best outings as a Stag. He posted personal bests in the winning efforts in the 200m free (2:02.37) and the 100m free (56.35). He also clocked a winning time of 4:28.03 in the 400m free. <\/p>\n
McGonigle and Kingman, along with Boris Romanovsky and Chad Pfefier, were on the victorious 200m medley relay that had a time of 1:55.20. <\/p>\n
Freshman Jonathan O'Connor was a double-winner. He was victorious in the 800m free with a personal best of 9:23.38 and took the 200m fly with a time of 2:25.34. <\/p>\n
Sophomore Boris Romanovsky won the 100m back with a personal best of 1:05.71. He was also the runner-up in the 200m back with a time of 2:26.35. Pfeifer was victorious in the 100m fly with a time of 1:03.38. <\/p>\n
In the diving events, Taylor Stecko swept both boards for the Stags. He posted a mark of 166.27 in the 1-meter and a 226.50 in the 3-meter. Freshman Brett Carisio was third in both events with a mark of 130.72 in the 1-meter and a score of 139.20 in the 3-meter. <\/p>\n
With the victory on the men's side, Head Coach Bill Farley has become the all-time winningest coach in Fairfield history. <\/p>\n
On the women's side, Fairfield had numerous double-winners. Rookie Katie Merz was one of the double-winners recording victories in the 200m free, with a personal best of 2:13.64, and the 400m free, with a time of 4:41.44. Merz was also the runner-up in the 100m free with a time of 1:03.36. <\/p>\n
Seniors Sarah Dent and Liz Lawlor were also double-winners. Dent captured the 100m back with a time of 1:10.48 and posted a winning time of 2:32.13 in the 200m back. She was also the runner-up in the 200m IM with a personal best of 2:37.91. <\/p>\n
Lawlor posted a win in the 1000m breaststroke with a time of 1:20.00 and took the 200m breaststroke with a time of 2:53.01. <\/p>\n
Senior Rachel Waldstein was victorious in the 100m fly with a time of 2:37.69, while Meghan Carlson won the 200m IM with a personal best of 2:37.78. Carlson also was second in the 100m back with a time of 1:11.05. <\/p>\n
Dent, Lawlor, Waldstein, along with freshman Allison Russoniello, comprised the victorious 200m medley relay that posted a time of 2:09.56. <\/p>\n
In the diving events, Katie Yee swept both boards for the second-straight meet. She recorded a score of 164.32 in the 1-meter and a mark of 212.32 in the 3-meter. Senior Jennifer Silvia was the runner-up in both events with a mark of 123.07 in the 1-meter and a 195.45 in the 3-meter. <\/p>\n
