ATHENS, Ohio, November 3. THE Ohio swimming and diving team continued its winning ways at the Aquatic Center, defeating Mid-American Conference foe Buffalo, 166-129, to begin the season 4-0. Ohio won 10 of the first 12 events, paced by two victories from freshman Stacey Huber (Gainesville, Fla.). <\/p>\n
"I thought the team performed very well today," said Ohio Head Coach Greg Werner. "One of our goals was to be better today than we were yesterday and in most cases I thought we were. Not only in our performance were we better, but how we executed our races, how we prepared and how we recovered from the races." <\/p>\n
Huber placed first in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:20.30) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:06.07) to collect 18 points for the Bobcats. Huber is now the fourth freshman to place first in an event for the Bobcats through the first three meets of the season. <\/p>\n
"We knew that we had some great freshmen coming in this year," explained Werner. "We are seeing what they can do in practice every day. The freshmen are coming in and challenge the returning team and in some cases they are setting the tone." <\/p>\n
Ohio senior co-captain Emily Wylam (Yorktown, Va.) had a solid meet, touching the wall first in the 100-yard backstroke (58.72) and swimming the first leg of the first-place 200-yard medley relay team (1:47.76). <\/p>\n
Sophomore Lindsay Hamilton (Saskatchewan, Canada) won the one-meter dive for the second consecutive meet for the Bobcats with a mark of 282.60. Hamilton placed second in the three-meter dive with a score of 271.42. <\/p>\n
Ohio senior Lindsey DeStefano (Wildwood, Mo.) placed first in the 50-yard freestyle (24.58) for the second straight meet and junior Ashley Marion (London, Ontario) capped of her impressive weekend by taking first in the 100-yard freestyle (53.55). <\/p>\n
Freshman Amanda Cecere (Chelmsford, Mass.) touched the wall first in the 200-yard butterfly (2:05.29) and finished second in the 200-yard backstroke for the Bobcats. <\/p>\n
"In regards to the season I am ecstatic and I would have felt the same way regardless of the outcome of this weekend's meets," said Werner. "We have been having great practices on a daily basis and I know we are preparing for bigger and better things down the road." <\/p>\n
Buffalo (1-2, 0-2 MAC) was led by Andrea Lehner, who placed first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.11) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:06.15), and swam the opening leg for Buffalo's first-place 800-yard freestyle relay team (8:02.14). <\/p>\n
