ALLENDALE, Michigan, November 3. IN another SwimmingWorldMagazine.com<\/b> Meet of the Week, Ashland and Grand Valley State went toe-to-toe in Allendale, Mich., with the Ashland men eking out a victory and the Grand Valley State women capturing a win. Ashland's men beat GVSU, 146-138, while GVSU's women took down Ashland, 166-119.<\/p>\n
The Ashland men picked up nine titles against Grand Valley State's seven. Meanwhile, the GVSU women claimed 11 crowns against Ashland's five.<\/p>\n
Erik Hakansson paced Ashland with a trio of titles. He won the 200 free (1:43.56) and 200 IM (1:55.60) with B-cut times, while also touching first in the 100 free with a time off 48.14. Derek Balogh, meanwhile, won a pair of titles for Ashland with wins in the 500 (4:48.41) and 1000 (9:57.90) frees.<\/p>\n
Chewy Vogele and Ben Monti both pocketed a pair of titles. Both were part of the 200 free relay of Sean McGraw (22.02), Vogele (21.86), Arthur Gouvea (22.42) and Monti (21.23) that stopped the clock in 1:27.53. Also, Vogele won the 200 fly (1:57.32), while Monti won the 50 free (22.19). Jonas Jeffsell also won in the 200 breast (2:11.61)<\/p>\n
GVSU enjoyed the advantage of extra diving points as Evan Betts posted qualifying tallies in the 1m (274.87) and 3m (313.95). Evan Kobes also won a pair of titles with a win in the 100 back (54.81) and as the leadoff of the 200 medley relay squad of Kobes (25.26), Hans Hill (27.16), Phil Watkins (23.93) and Matt Witkowski (21.36) that won in 1:37.71.<\/p>\n
Other winners for Grand Valley State included Hans Hill (100 breast \u2013 59.79), Jordan Schrotenboer (200 back \u2013 1:59.81) and Justin Pattermann (100 fly \u2013 52.96).<\/p>\n
In the women's meet, GVSU enjoyed a top performance from Jenna Thayer. She swept the butterfly titles with a B-cut time in the 200 fly (2:10.35), while also winning the 100 fly (59.32). She also helped the 200 medley relay contingent of Danielle Buglio (28.84), Alison VanKampen (32.42), Thayer (26.73) and Kim Baughman (24.17) to a win in 1:52.16. Additionally, Thayer clocked a B-cut time of 2:10.83 in the 200 IM in an exhibition swim.<\/p>\n
Danielle Buglio and Sam Stump also doubled up in swimming events. Buglio won the 100 back (1:01.29) and 200 back (2:13.74), while Stump swept the 100 breast (1:10.61) and 200 breast (2:32.42). Also, Alison Sante won the diving events (1m \u2013 225.30; 3m \u2013 204.22).<\/p>\n
Other wins came from Katie Lawrie in the 1000 free (11:01.49) and Erin Kinney in the 200 free (1:59.16).<\/p>\n
For Ashland, Allison Morgan shouldered the load with three titles. She snared the 50 free (25.20) and 100 free (54.98), while also helping the 200 free relay team of Ashley Shupe (25.47), Jennifer Knight (25.23), Jessica Hennick (25.63) and Morgan (24.27) to the win in 1:40.60.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Lizzy Wermer (500 free \u2013 5:24.04) and Nicole Birchmeier (200 IM \u2013 2:19.32) also claimed titles.<\/p>\n
