NEW YORK, November 1. DESPITE opposition from a group desiring freedom for Tibet, the United Nations General Assembly has adopted, as has been the case since the early 1990s, the Olympic Truce Resolution, which calls for the 182 member nations to observe and promote peace during the Beijing Olympics and beyond.<\/p>\n
According to Reuters, the Free Tibet Campaign asked British government to protest the Olympics being held in China, due to the country's poor human rights record. China invaded Tibet in 1950 and has ruled since. Before the resolution passed, International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge spoke of the positives of having the Games in China.<\/p>\n
